Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Kerala and Tamil Nadu on March 11 (Wednesday) to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for development projects worth ₹16,450 crore across key sectors.
The Prime Minister will first travel to Ernakulam, where he will launch projects worth about ₹10,800 crore around 1:30 pm and address a public gathering.
At around 5:45 pm, Modi will be in Tiruchirappalli to unveil projects valued at about ₹5,650 crore and interact with attendees.
Projects in Kerala
In Ernakulam, Modi will lay the foundation stone for a polypropylene unit at the Kochi refinery of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited. The facility, with a capacity of 400 kilo tonnes per annum and an investment exceeding ₹5,500 crore, is expected to strengthen India's polymer manufacturing capabilities and reduce import dependence.
In the road infrastructure sector, Modi will inaugurate the six-laning of the Thalapady–Chengala stretch of National Highway 66, developed at a cost of over ₹2,650 crore. The corridor is part of the Mumbai–Kanyakumari Economic Corridor and will improve connectivity between Kasaragod and Kannur districts and neighbouring regions such as Mangaluru.
Modi will also open the six-laning of the Kozhikode bypass from Vengalam to Ramanattukara, built at a cost of about ₹2,140 crore. The upgraded six-lane highway with service roads is expected to significantly reduce congestion and cut travel time along the stretch from over an hour to roughly 15–20 minutes.
Modi will inaugurate 23 rural roads constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana in Kerala to improve connectivity in remote areas.
Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, three redeveloped railway stations — Shoranur Junction railway station, Kuttippuram railway station and Changanassery railway station — will also be inaugurated.
Modi will dedicate the Shoranur–Nilambur railway line electrification project to the nation, enabling more efficient and sustainable train operations. He will also flag off a new train service between Palakkad and Pollachi to enhance rail connectivity between Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
He will lay the foundation stone for a 50-MW floating solar project in West Kallada in Kollam district, aimed at supporting India’s clean energy goals.
Projects in Tamil Nadu
In Tiruchirappalli, Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for projects spanning petroleum and natural gas infrastructure, lubricants manufacturing, highways, rural roads and railway services.
He will lay the foundation stone for a city gas distribution network by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited in the Nilgiris and Erode districts, being developed at a cost of over ₹3,680 crore. The project aims to provide piped natural gas connections to more than 8.8 lakh households and establish over 201 CNG stations.
The prime minister will also dedicate a lube blending plant of Indian Oil Corporation at Manali in Chennai to the nation. Built at an investment of about ₹1,490 crore, the facility will have a capacity of 6,72,000 metric tonnes per annum.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, Modi will inaugurate 89 rural roads covering 370 km in Tamil Nadu to improve connectivity to markets, schools and healthcare facilities.
He will also lay the foundation stone for a greenfield bypass near Gangaikonda Cholapuram on National Highway 81.
Modi will flag off two Amrit Bharat Express trains, two express trains and a passenger service, aimed at strengthening rail connectivity between Tamil Nadu and other states including Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala and parts of eastern India.
