The Met Office issued an orange alert for Delhi, warning of major disruptions to road, rail and air traffic due to dense fog. The IMD also issued a red alert for Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, predicting dense to very dense fog in the region on Saturday.
Meanwhile, an orange alert has been issued for Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Chhattisgarh for dense fog.
Additionally, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for December 20, warning of cold wave conditions across Telangana and Karnataka. Meanwhile, dense fog is expected to impact Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Odisha and the northeastern states.

Dense fog warning
According to the IMD, dense to very dense fog is expected during night and morning hours across Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh, west Uttar Pradesh, north Madhya Pradesh and Bihar until the morning of December 21, and east Uttar Pradesh until December 22. Isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh are also likely to see a return of these conditions on December 24 and 25.
Additionally, isolated dense fog is expected across northeast India through December 24, while Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and north Odisha will remain affected until December 21. Similar conditions are predicted for Haryana, Chandigarh, west Uttar Pradesh until December 23, Bihar on December 21 and 22, East Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan on December 22 and 23, and Uttarakhand and Punjab on December 23.
Delhi on orange alert for dense fog
The IMD has issued an orange alert for very dense fog during the morning hours at a few places in the national capital on December 20. The minimum temperature in the national capital is likely to go down to 7-9 degrees Celsius today, the IMD said.

The Met Office has issued a yellow alert for Delhi on December 21 and 22. Many areas in the city are likely to witness a partly cloudy sky with moderate fog at many places, with dense fog at isolated places during morning hours.
Heavy rainfall/snowfall likely in Jammu and Kashmir, Muzaffarabad
In its latest bulletin issued on Saturday, the IMD forecasts that isolated rainfall or snowfall is very likely across the western Himalayan region for the next four days. Heavy rainfall or snowfall is likely at isolated places over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, specifically on December 21. Furthermore, isolated rainfall is expected over Punjab during the three-day period from December 20 to 22.
Cold wave predicted for Telangana, Karnataka
According to the weather forecaster, cold wave conditions are expected at isolated places across Telangana and south interior Karnataka on December 20 and 21.
Additionally, west Madhya Pradesh is likely to experience isolated cold wave conditions specifically on December 20. Cold wave to severe cold wave conditions very likely over isolated places in North Interior Karnataka on both December 20 and 21.
Forecast of minimum temperatures
According to the IMD forecast, Northwest India will see a gradual rise in minimum temperatures by 2-3°C over the next two days, followed by a sharper decline of 2-4°C during the subsequent five days. In east India, temperatures will remain stable for the next four days before gradually falling by approximately 2°C, while the Gujarat region is expected to see no change in current temperatures for 24 hours before a 2-3°C drop over the next six days.
