A high-level US trade delegation led by Deputy United States Trade Representative (USTR) Ambassador Rick Switzer is in India this week as both countries
step up efforts toward a long-discussed bilateral trade agreement. The delegation is holding meetings with Indian counterparts between December 9 and 12.
In an exclusive statement, the US Embassy spokesperson told CNBC-TV18, “We value our ongoing engagement with the Government of India on trade and investment matters” and “look forward to continuing to advance a trade agreement that supports a productive and balanced economic relationship between our two countries.”
The renewed push comes amid positive signals from the US administration.
As part of the visit, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri also met Deputy Rick Switzer, where discussions centred on strengthening the India–US economic and technology partnership. The two sides also reviewed progress in ongoing trade negotiations and explored opportunities to expand two-way trade and build resilient supply chains.

India, US making steady progress: Piyush Goyal
Speaking in Rajasthan, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal confirmed that talks with the US are progressing steadily.
“We are in continuous talks with the US on trade issues and are working towards a bilateral trade agreement,” he said.
Goyal also noted that the US negotiating team is already in India and that “continuous progress” is being made. He added that he hopes to return to Delhi later tonight and may “try to take out some time to meet the US team,” depending on parliamentary engagements, ANI reported.
The minister emphasised that trade negotiations require patience.
“All trade discussions, including with the US, have various angles, and many dots have to be connected. We never negotiate deals with deadlines,” he said.
India-EU FTA also advancing
Goyal further revealed progress on other trade fronts, saying India and the European Union have agreed on the broad contours of a Free Trade Agreement and remain committed to concluding it “at the earliest.”
