The court accepted his plea which was opposed by the Tihar Jail authorities where he is being kept in
Rana reportedly told the court that he was seeking the permission to speak with his family to consult whether he should change his legal aid counsel or not. He requested a one-time phone call for this.
However, this is not the fist time the Mumbai terror attack mastermind has sought the permission to speak with his family.
He was allowed a to speak with his family on phone in June as well.

Rana is in judicial custody till August 13 which was extended by the court on July 9 after his initial custody period was over.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) probing Rana's role in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks has filed a supplementary chargesheet against him which will be taken up by the special court on August 13, as per news agency PTI.
Rana was extradited to India on April 4 from the United States after his plea against the extradition was rejected by the US
He is a close associate of David Coleman Headley alias Daood Gilani who is also the 26/11 attacks main conspirator.
Rana is accused in the planning of the November 26, 2008 terror attacks which claimed lives of about 166 people across Mumbai. The terrorists had entered India through sea route and carried out coordinated attack on two luxury hotels, a railway station and a Jewish centre, as per PTI.
