Incessant rains have triggered a flood-like situation in several parts of Odisha, with the rising water levels in rivers causing concern. The recent spell of downpours has caused disruptions across the state.
Officials reported on Monday that overflowing rivers inundated parts of Balasore, Bhadrak, and Jajpur in Odisha. The overflowing Subarnarekha flooded Balipal, Basta, Bhograi, and Jaleswar blocks in the worst-affected Balasore district.
The overflowing Baitarani River in Bhadrak has flooded the Dhamnagar and Bhandaripohgari blocks. The river in Akhuapada was also flowing above the danger level. A breach in the Kani River embankment flooded several villages in Jajpur's Dasarathpur block.

“The water level of the Subarnarekha may come down in a few hours, but it would again rise due to incessant rains in the upper catchment areas. The water level at Jamsolaghat is gradually rising due to rain,” he added.
The Brahmani River in Sundargarh district's Bonai block is swollen as a result of massive rainfall. The floodwaters were about to submerge the Sia Jora bridge near Jangla, disrupting traffic. Water has already overwhelmed farmlands in the district's Jangla, Jakeikela, and Lalei.
On Sunday, the state government issued an alert for flooding in five districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj and Jajpur due to rising water levels in the Subarnarekha, Baitarani, and Brahmani rivers, caused by heavy rainfall in their upper catchment areas.
