Several state authorities have extended winter holidays in schools in view of the cold weather conditions.
The Punjab government has extended the winter holidays in all schools till January 13. Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said the decision was taken keeping in mind the health and safety of the children and staff.
The schools include all government, private, aided and recognised schools.
Earlier, the state government had declared holidays in all schools from December 24 to December 31. Later, it was extended till January 7.
Uttar Pradesh
Authorities in Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Buddh Nagar district have ordered the closure of all schools up to class 8 till January 10. It includes all recognised schools affiliated with the CBSE, ICSE, IB, the Uttar Pradesh Board and other boards operating in the district.
The decision was taken in compliance with the directions issued by the district magistrate, keeping in mind student safety amid prevailing weather conditions, District Basic Education Officer Rahul Panwar said in an official order.
In Lucknow, all schools have extended winter break till January 10 for pre-primary to Class 8, as per an official order. For classes 9 to 12, the school timings have been revised to 10 am to 3 pm, owing to cold weather conditions.
Schools have been directed to strictly follow the order.
