Is Sergio Gor the Next US Ambassador to India?

President Donald Trump has nominated a top MAGA leader and his close confidante Sergio Gor as the next US Ambassador to India. Gor has been nominated close to seven months after Trump was sworn in as President for a second term. However,

Gor can only travel to India as Ambassador once his nomination is approved by the US Senate.

At 38 years of age, Gor is set to be the youngest US Ambassador to India. Like Eric Garcetti and Kenneth Juster, Gor too is not a career diplomat, but a political appointee. However, what makes his appointment extremely important for India is the fact that he is a member of the President's inner circle and someone whom the President relies on. He is also considered extremely loyal to the President, a source told CNBC-TV18 requesting anonymity.

This is the first time that a US Ambassador to India has been given the charge of Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs. While Gor will be stationed in India, he will be overseeing developments and closely working with US Ambassadors in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Nepal, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

His appointment would be crucial for India at a time

when India-US ties have come under strain due to the threat of 50% tariffs on Indian goods. President Trump had on August 1 imposed 25% tariffs on Indian goods and then announced an additional tariff of 25% because of India's purchase of Russian oil. Having Gor in New Delhi, may help South Block in breaking the ice and reducing tensions between India and the US.

President Trump in recent months openly called for closer ties with Pakistan and has announced a trade deal with the country. While Pakistan had thanked Trump for

the ceasefire post Operation Sindoor, India has always maintained that the US had no role in a matter which was purely bilateral in nature. Sergio Gor's presence may help India in convincing the Trump administration about Pakistan's role in supporting terror groups and about the larger importance of India-US ties.

Gor is currently the Director of White Houses' Presidential Personnel Office, which is responsible for aiding the

President in recruiting, vetting and nominating over 4,000 political appointees throughout the federal government.

Gor has closely worked with Donald Trump and played an important role in his election campaigns over the last decade. He is also the co-founder of Winning Team Publishing, a conservative publishing house which has published some of Trump's best-selling books. According to the website of the publishing house, Gor has worked with numerous best-selling authors including Donald Trump Jr, Rand Paul, Charlie Kirk and Eric Bolling.

A graduate of the George Washington University, Gor has worked extensively in national politics including in the US House of Representatives, US Senate and on numerous Presidential campaigns.
