All you need to know about the Yellow Line and Phase 3:
- The Yellow Line spans 19.15 km from RV Road to Bommasandra, featuring 16 stations.
- It operates from 5 am to 11 pm, with trains running every 25 minutes initially due to only three driverless trains being available.
- One-way travel time is approximately 38 minutes.
- Initial daily ridership is expected to be 25,000, generating ₹10–15 lakh in revenue, with projections of 1.5–2 lakh riders and ₹60 lakh daily once 15 trains are operational next year.
- The line, costing ₹5,056.99 crore, was awarded in three packages in 2017, with construction mostly completed by 2023.
- Delays occurred due to train supply issues with China’s CRRC Nanjing Puzhen Co Ltd, contracted for ₹1,578 crore to supply 36 trainsets. CRRC faced challenges meeting India’s 75% local manufacturing rule, visa issues for Chinese engineers, and partnered with Titagarh Rail Systems Limited.
- A fourth train is expected by August 10 but requires three weeks of testing.

- It will decongest Silk Board Junction and connect the tech hub of Electronics City, benefiting southern and southeastern Bengaluru.
- The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety cleared the line on August 1, 2025.
- The Yellow Line expands Bengaluru’s metro network to 96.1 km, with Phase 2 covering 53.8 km.
-Phase 3, costing ₹15,611 crore, will add 44.65 km across two lines with 31 stations, connecting JP Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura (Hebbal)
- Phase 3 includes a double-decker viaduct to optimize space.

Surya noted that ₹20,000 crore worth of metro infrastructure is dedicated to Bengaluru South, addressing the “infamous Silk Board jam” and boosting public transport for 25 lakh residents.
