What is the story about?
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday (December 12) clarified that Mumbai is not under any cold wave alert.
For a coastal city like Mumbai, a cold wave is declared only if two key conditions are met:
A cold wave alert is issued on the second day if both criteria are fulfilled.
The IMD said that while the city is experiencing pleasant temperatures, this phase will last only for a day or two. After that, temperatures will rise gradually, before another likely cool spell returns towards late December or early January.
The weather department has issued a cold wave alert for parts of Madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha, and Marathwada, where temperatures are expected to fall significantly.
Meanwhile, a thin layer of fog lingers in the air, and AQI in the Bandra Kurla Complex area of Mumbai is recorded at 116, categorised as 'moderate', as per the CPCB.
