The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued orange and yellow alerts for multiple states across the country on Monday, August 11, and these alerts are in effect until August 14. The weather forecaster predicted heavy rains
over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Sikkim and issued an orange alert for Monday.
A yellow alert is in place for Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and the eastern Indian states.
Thundershowers to lash Mumbai
The Met Office predicted moderate rainfall for Mumbai and neighbouring Thane in the coming days. A yellow alert is in place for August 13 for heavy showers. As per the IMD’s forecast released on Sunday, the two cities are expected
to witness light to moderate rain or thundershowers on Monday and Tuesday, with similar conditions expected again on August 14.
Partly cloudy skies in Delhi
Delhi is expected to experience partly cloudy skies, accompanied by light rain or thundershowers, on Monday. The maximum temperature is expected to be between 33-35°C, and the minimum between 24-26°C.
Flood Situation in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar
Heavy rainfall in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar has caused flooding. In Bihar, seven districts are underwater, affecting
around 10 lakh people. Ten rivers, including the Ganga, are flowing above the danger level. So far, 11 people have died due to the flooding, and 24 panchayats in Patna district are surrounded by floodwaters.
Continuous rainfall in Uttar Pradesh has caused rivers and drains to overflow. The Ramganga river is in spate in Moradabad. A dramatic incident occurred on Sunday when a motorcyclist was swept away by floodwaters and remained perched on a tree for 22 hours before being rescued. According to Bhaskar English, 54 districts in UP recorded 5.9 mm of rain
in the last 24 hours.
The IMD predicted isolated heavy rainfall in Bihar until Wednesday, August 13. Isolated heavy rainfall is predicted in west Uttar Pradesh on August 16, east Uttar Pradesh on August 12 and 15, along with very heavy rainfall over west Uttar Pradesh on August 13 and 15 and east Uttar Pradesh on August 13 and 14.
Orange alert in Himachal Pradesh
The IMD issued an orange alert for the state, predicting heavy showers on Monday. So far this monsoon season, Himachal Pradesh has recorded 224 deaths,
including 116 in rain-related incidents and 108 in road accidents. Isolated heavy rainfall is predicted in the state on August 15 and 16, along with very heavy rainfall until Thursday.
Bengaluru weather alert
On Sunday, the IMD issued a yellow alert for the next 48 hours for the city as it is witnessing heavy rainfall. The continuous rain has caused waterlogging in several parts of the city, interrupting traffic on major routes and making commuting difficult.
Residents in low-lying areas are also
dealing with stagnant water near their homes. The weather agency predicted that the rain would continue, with two more days of heavy rain beginning on August 10. The current yellow warning is in effect until August 11 and may be extended if conditions persist.
