Delhi on Alert as Yamuna River Exceeds Danger Mark

The Yamuna river in Delhi has crossed the danger mark, prompting evacuation of residents from low-lying areas.

At 8 am on Tuesday, the water level at the Old Railway Bridge reached 205.79 metres, just below the

206-metre 'evacuation' mark. On Monday afternoon, it had risen to 205.55 metres, breaching the danger level of 205.33 metres, and has continued to rise since.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, after inspecting affected areas near Yamuna Bazar where water entered homes, assured that the situation is under control. "There is no flood-like situation in Delhi, and the water level will begin to recede in the coming days," she said.

Gupta added that relief camps with food and medical aid have been set up in schools,

and solar-powered floodlights installed to address electricity issues.

"There was a possibility of the Yamuna briefly touching 206 metres, but the level is now receding. This was the peak rise," she explained, stressing that rescue teams are fully deployed.

Assuring citizens of safety, she said: "The government stands with you. Your safety is our priority. There is no need to worry."
