According to IMD data, parts of south Mumbai recorded over 100 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours. The Colaba observatory, which monitors the island city, logged 120.8 mm, while the Santacruz station in the suburbs registered 83.8 mm by 8.30 am.
Nonetheless, Nowcast forcast "Heavy rains were expected in entire Western Suburbs of Mumbai throughout early morning leading to waterlogging."
Key areas reported substantial precipitation, with Juhu receiving 88 mm, Bandra 82.5 mm, and Mahalaxmi 28 mm during the same period. The IMD had earlier placed Mumbai under a ‘red alert’ for Sunday for "heavy to very heavy rainfall" across the city.

A civic official, citing the department’s 8 am forecast, noted that Mumbai could expect "cloudy sky with heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm/lightning and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph", with the "possibility of extremely heavy rain at isolated places."
Rains began intensifying after midnight, with several areas experiencing intense showers through the night. By morning, the weather had calmed, and most parts of the city were witnessing light to moderate rain, interspersed with occasional heavy spells.
Despite wet conditions, local train services on Central and Western Railway lines remained operational, albeit with some delays. Buses run by the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking continued without route diversions.
Looking ahead, officials warned of a high tide expected at 2:55 pm, reaching 3.24 metres, and a low tide of 1.31 metres anticipated at 8:50 pm. Typically, heavy rain combined with high tide increases the risk of waterlogging in low-lying zones, while low tide aids faster drainage.
Neighbouring districts — Raigad, Thane, and Palghar — were also placed under a red alert for Sunday, with similar forecasts of intense rainfall. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as Mumbai braces for more unpredictable weather in the coming days.
