Rough Seas Warning Issued for Odisha Fishermen

• IMD warns Odisha fishermen: Rough seas expected; avoid Bay of Bengal for 5 days.
• Andaman & Nicobar fishermen advised to stay ashore Aug 31-Sept 1 due to rough seas.
• Heavy rain: 8 dead in Chhattisgarh floods; Yamuna swells in Delhi; J&K gets respite.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday (August 28) warned fishermen of rough sea conditions and advised them not to venture off the Odisha coastor into the deep sea areas of the north-west and

west-central Bay of Bengal for the next five days.

While they have been told to remain cautious till Tuesday, September 2, the next 24 hours are seen as critical. IMD said coasts could get very rough over the next 24 hours with

wind speeds expected to touch 35-45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph.

A similar advisory was also issued for fishermen in the Andaman and Nicobar islands as well. They have been advised not to venture into sea on Sunday (August 31) and Monday (September 1) in the island region.

Elsewhere in India, IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning across Guwahati

over the next 24 hours.

Chhattisgarh has been reeling under incessant rains over the past three days. The deluge triggered flooding, with eight reported dead in the Bastar division. More than 2,000 people have been evacuated to safety.  

In Delhi, heavy downpour has caused Yamuna river to swell, crossing the danger mark of 205.33 metres on Wednesday (August 27) night. 

Meanwhile, Jammu & Kashmirgot a bit of a breather today (August 28) after several days of rains. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's government has assured

immediate support and restoration of damaged infrastructure. The Northern Railways today ran a special unreserved train from Jammu station to New Delhi for those stranded in the area.
