What is the story about?
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast significant rainfall activity over the next few days in Maharashtra, which will lead to a gradual drop in daytime temperatures across regions.
According to the IMD, rainfall activity is expected across Maharashtra between June 2 and 5. These pre-monsoon showers will hit districts across the state as Maharashtra awaits the onset of the southwest monsoon soon.
The IMD predicted that up to 25% of weather stations are likely to record rainfall during this period. Isolated places in north central Maharashtra, south central Maharashtra, Marathwada, east Vidarbha and west Vidarbha may receive light rain to moderate rain, along with thunderstorms.
North and south Konkan Met sub-divisions are also expected to receive isolated rainfall till June 3, while up to half of the stations in the south Konkan region may experience scattered rain on June 4-5, the IMD said.
Impact on temperature
The maximum temperatures are expected to fall by 2-3 degrees Celsius in the interior regions of the state during the next four to five days, the IMD said. No significant change is likely after that period.

In Vidarbha, maximum temperatures are expected to remain largely unchanged over the next seven days. For minimum temperatures, the IMD said there will be no major change across Maharashtra during the next three days, followed by a gradual decline of 2-3 degrees Celsius.
IMD Issues yellow alert
In view of the expected rainfall, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for most districts in north central Maharashtra, north Konkan and east Vidarbha on June 2. A similar alert remains in place for parts of south Konkan, Marathwada and west Vidarbha and south central Maharashtra.
For June 3, the agency issued a yellow alert for districts mostly located in north and south Konkan, most of north central Maharashtra and parts of Vidarbha.
For June 4, a yellow alert remains in place for parts of Konkan, north central Maharashtra and some areas in Vidarbha. For June 5, the weather body has issued a yellow alert mostly for Konkan districts and some parts of south central Maharashtra.
According to the IMD’s bulletin, Palghar, Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Dhule, Nandurbrar, Jalgaon, Nashik, Ahilyanagar, Pune, Satara, Jalna, Ratnagiri, Nashik, Amravati, among others, are likely to experience thunderstorms with lightning and moderate rainfall and strong winds on June 2-3. Other places may experience light rain and thunderstorms during this period.
