This marks PM Modi's second visit to the northeastern state since assuming office in 2014. His previous visit was in December 2017, when he commissioned the 60-megawatt Turial hydroelectric project in Kolasib district, near the Assam border.

Bairabi-Sairang: Project to boost connectivity
The 51.38 km long Bairabi-Sairang line is a part of the Centre's Act East Policy, and will connect Aizawl with Silchar in Assam and integrate Mizoram into the national railway network for the first time.

Bridge No. 144 near Sairang is India's tallest pier railway bridge at 114 metres, as per PTI.
The new route will reduce travel time between Aizawl and Guwahati to 12 hours by train, compared with 16 hours by road, and cut the Aizawl-Silchar journey from seven to three hours. The railway line is also expected to improve passenger and freight movement, generate employment, and boost socio-economic growth in Mizoram, as per railway officials.
PM Modi to visit Manipur
After Mizoram, PM Modi will also visit Manipur, which will be his first visit to the state since the ethnic violence erupted in May 2023 that has claimed hundreds of lives.
The Prime Minister will visit Manipur and lay the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth over ₹7,300 crore in Churachandpur district at around 12:30 pm. He will also address the gathering on the occasion.
The projects include Manipur Urban Roads, drainage and asset management
Further, he will inaugurate various projects worth over ₹1,200 crore in Imphal at around 2:30 pm and address a public function.
Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel on Friday (September 12) said, "The visit of the Prime Minister to Manipur will pave the way to peace, normalcy and accelerated growth in the state," as per PTI.

Security tightened before PM's visit
Security has been heightened across Mizoram ahead of PM Modi's visit. Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) H Ramthlengliana told PTi that all police units are on high alert, with BSF and CRPF teams deployed in Aizawl.
Traffic restrictions and shop closures have been enforced along the PM's convoy route, while residents, students and government employees have been urged to attend the public meeting.
