Train services in the northern sector have been further disrupted after a misalignment was detected on Bridge No. 17 between Kathua and Madhopur Punjab, Northern Railway said on Friday (August 29).
According to the railway’s official press release, 47 trains have been cancelled, while two services have been short-terminated and another two short-originated on August 30–31, 2025. Among the affected are major long-distance trains, including the New Delhi–Jammu Tawi Rajdhani Express (12425/12426), Howrah–Jammu Tawi Himgiri Express (12331), Pune–Jammu Express (11077/11078), multiple Vande Bharat services to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, and the Shri Shakti Express (22461/22462).
The Varanasi–Jammu Tawi Express (12237) will be short-terminated at Ambala Cantt, and the Sambalpur–Jammu Tawi Express (18309) at Amritsar. Meanwhile, the Jammu Tawi–Varanasi Express (12238) and Jammu Tawi–Tatanagar Express (18102) will originate from Ambala Cantt and Amritsar, respectively.
Passengers have been advised to check the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) or dial 139 for real-time updates.
The latest disruption comes a day after Northern Railways cancelled 40 trains from Jammu, Katra, and
Udhampur on August 29, following misalignments and breaches on multiple stretches between Kathua and Udhampur due to record rainfall. On Thursday, officials had to run twospecial trains from Jammu to Banaras and New Delhi, carrying nearly 3,000 stranded passengers, many of them Vaishno Devi pilgrims, according to PTI.
The Jammu region has been reeling under its heaviest rainfall since 1910, which has also triggered landslides, including one near the shrine that claimed 34 lives.
