The cows visible in the video appear to be of the Punganur breed, a rare dwarf cattle variety from Andhra Pradesh, known for its small stature and high-quality milk.
Feeding cows on Makar Sankranti is a traditional Hindu practice, believed to bring prosperity and blessings.
Alongside the ritual, Prime Minister Modi also extended his wishes to the nation in a post on X, praying for the well-being of all citizens.

“This sacred occasion of Sankranti is celebrated in various parts of the country according to local customs and traditions. I pray to Lord Surya for everyone's happiness, prosperity, and excellent health,” he wrote.
Makar Sankranti is a major harvest festival celebrated across India under different names, including Pongal, Bihu, and Maghi. The festival marks the sun’s transition into Capricorn (Makara) and the beginning of Uttarayana, signifying the end of winter.
Celebrations vary by region and often include kite flying, preparation of traditional dishes such as khichdi, and the sharing of festive sweets.
