What is the story about?
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has been provided a 'Z' category security by the Central government on Thursday, August 21.
The decision comes a day after Gupta was slapped, and assaulted by a man at her residence
during a 'Jan Sunwai' programme.
The Chief Minister, along with her official residence and the Camp Office on Raj Niwas Marg in New Delhi’s Civil Lines, would also be secured by the VIP Security Group (VSG) of the paramilitary force, reported news agency PTI.
Following the directions of the Union Home Ministry, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) took charge of Gupta's security on August 21. At least 22-25 CRPF commandos would always be on duty under the new security directive.
What is
the matter all about?
Rekha Gupta was attacked by a man, later identified as 41-year-old Gujarat's Rajkot resident Sakriya Rajeshbhai Khimjibhai. The accused allegedly hurled abuses, slapped, tried to pull Gupta's hair, and beat her as she fell down due to the assault. The man had reportedly recced Gupta's residence a day earlier.

He was detained by Delhi Police and was charged with attempt to
murder under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita's (BNS) Section 109(1). He is under five day police custody.
A joint team of Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Delhi Police Special cell is probing the matter and trying to know the motive of the attack, PTI reported.
What is Z category security?
Under the central protection list, the VIP security cover begins from the highest Z plus, Z, Y plus, Y and X categories.
It is one of the highest levels of security that is provided to individuals deemed to be at significant risk. It entails
high-level protections through deployment of security gadgets, and comprising personal security officers along with escorts, armed guards and surveillance staff.
The 'Z' category security is provided to individuals with public significance, such as political leaders, government officials, and notable public figures.
