Meanwhile, a yellow alert is in place for dense morning fog in Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, and several northeastern states, including Mizoram, Manipur, Meghalaya, and Assam.
In a post on X, the Met Office warned that a severe cold wave is likely to persist over Central, East, and Northern India from December 9 to 12.
Meanwhile, cold conditions will begin affecting Northwest and West India starting December 10 and lasting through December 12. It further advised residents to take necessary precautions and stay updated with official weather bulletins.

Cold wave warning in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha
Several parts of central, northern and western India are likely to experience isolated cold wave conditions between December 10 and 13. Specifically, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha will be affected by these conditions till December 13; Punjab during December 11-13; Vidarbha and Telangana on December 10 and 11; and Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, northern Rajasthan, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada on December 12 and 13.
Thunderstorms likely over Andaman & Nicobar Islands
The Andaman & Nicobar Islands are expected to witness thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning and gusty winds, till Wednesday. In its latest bulletin, the IMD said, “Thunderstorms, lightning with gusty wind speed (30-40 kmph) is likely over Andaman & Nicobar Islands on December 9 and 10..”
Dense fog in Assam and Manipur
According to IMD, Assam and Manipur can expect dense fog conditions during early morning hours in isolated pockets from December 10 to 14, while East Uttar Pradesh and Odisha should anticipate these conditions specifically on December 10 and 11.
Clear skies in Delhi
Delhi is likely to witness a mainly clear sky today, with mist/haze during the morning hours. The Met Office has warned of surface wind blowing at a speed of 15 to 20 kmph during the daytime. The minimum temperature in the national capital today is expected to hover around 8-10 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature will likely be between 23 and 25 degrees Celsius.
Minimum temperatures
In the plains of Northwest India, a gradual drop in minimum temperatures by 2°C is expected over the next two days, followed by stable temperatures for two days, and then a subsequent rise of 2-4°C over the following three days. Central India should see no significant change in minimum temperatures for the next four days, after which a rise of 2-3°C is anticipated for three days.
Maharashtra is set to experience a gradual 2-3°C fall in minimum temperatures starting in four days, remaining stable thereafter for three days.
Meanwhile, Gujarat, East India, and Northeast India are not expected to see any significant changes in minimum temperatures over the next five days.
