The Delhi Traffic Police on Tuesday, December 30, issued an extensive traffic advisory announcing restrictions, diversions and special parking arrangements
in Connaught Place and surrounding areas in view of new year’s eve celebrations on December 31.
Police said a large turnout is expected in Connaught Place and nearby locations to ring in the new year, necessitating special traffic measures to regulate heavy pedestrian movement and vehicular congestion.
As per the advisory, traffic restrictions will be enforced from 7 pm on December 31 and will remain in place till the celebrations conclude. The restrictions will apply to both private and public transport vehicles, except those specifically permitted.

No vehicle will be allowed to move towards Connaught Place beyond designated points such as Mandi House, Bengali Market, Patel Chowk, Gole Market, GPO, Kasturba Gandhi Road–Ferozeshah Road crossing, Jai Singh Road–Bangla Sahib Lane, Windsor Place roundabout, and several other intersections.
Vehicular movement will be completely prohibited in the Inner, Middle and Outer Circles of Connaught Place, except for vehicles with valid entry passes.
In view of the anticipated heavy footfall near India Gate, traffic may also be restricted or diverted at several locations, including O-Point, W-Point, MLNP and Sunheri Masjid roundabouts, as well as stretches such as Rajpath–Rafi Marg, Mathura Road–Purana Qila Road, Sher Shah Road and Zakir Hussain Marg.
The traffic police have suggested alternate routes for north-south and east-west travel, including Ring Road, Mathura Road, Rani Jhansi Marg, Panchkuian Road, Mandir Marg and Mother Teresa Crescent.
Special parking arrangements have been made in and around Connaught Place. Designated parking areas include Kali Bari Marg, Pt Pant Marg, Bhai Veer Singh Marg, Rakab Ganj Road, Copernicus Marg, Babar Road, Tansen Marg, Windsor Place, Jantar Mantar Road and Raisina Road, among others. Parking will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, and unauthorised or improper parking will lead to towing and prosecution.
For commuters travelling to New Delhi Railway Station from the south, specific routes have been advised, while entry from Connaught Place via Chelmsford Road will remain closed. The Old Delhi Railway Station will not be affected by the restrictions.

The Delhi Traffic Police have urged the public to use public transport, as parking near India Gate and Connaught Place will be extremely limited. Commuters have also been advised to avoid restricted roads, plan their journeys in advance and allow extra travel time while heading to railway stations, ISBTs and the airport.
