Meanwhile, a yellow alert for dense fog and cold wave is in place for Haryana, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Assam, among others.
Yellow alert for dense fog in Delhi
The IMD issued a yellow alert on Saturday for Delhi, predicting moderate fog at many places, with dense fog in isolated areas during the morning hours. According to the weather department, the maximum temperature is likely to remain between 21°C and 23°C and the minimum between 7°C and 9°C.
Dense fog in Uttarakhand, Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh
On Saturday, Uttarakhand is likely to experience dense to very dense fog conditions in the morning and night hours at isolated places till January 18. Following this,
Meanwhile, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh will also face similar severe conditions today, January 17, followed by isolated dense fog through January 22. Uttar Pradesh remains under a heavy alert, with west UP seeing dense to very dense fog until January 19 and East UP until January 20, easing off to isolated dense fog by January 21.
Additionally, isolated dense fog is also expected to impact Bihar till January 20, Assam and Meghalaya through January 18, and West Bengal and Sikkim until January 19.
Isolated rainfall likely in west Uttar Pradesh, Punjab
According to the IMD, light to moderate isolated or scattered rainfall and snowfall are expected across Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand until January 22. In the plains, isolated rainfall is forecast for Punjab on January 18, 19, and 22, while Haryana and Chandigarh are likely to see showers on January 19 and 22. West Uttar Pradesh is also expected to receive isolated rainfall on January 22.
“Conditions are becoming favourable for cessation of Northeast monsoon rains over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe and adjoining areas of coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema and south interior Karnataka during next 48 hours,” the IMD said.
Cold day warning for Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh
The IMD has issued a cold day alert for isolated pockets of Uttarakhand and West Uttar Pradesh today, January 17, with similar conditions expected in East Uttar Pradesh through Sunday, January 18.
Further, severe cold wave conditions are very likely to prevail today, January 17, across isolated pockets in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, west Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Odisha. The cold wave is expected to persist in East Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh through January 18.
