What is the story about?
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a fresh spell of thunderstorms, gusty winds and heavy rainfall across several parts of the country over the coming days, with Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry expected to witness intense rain activity for nearly a week.
Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal during the next seven days, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-50 kmph, the IMD said in its weather bulletin.
South Interior Karnataka is also likely to receive heavy rainfall on May 7 and 8, it added.
Fresh wet spell likely in northwest India
The weather office said a fresh western disturbance is expected to impact the western Himalayan region from May 10, triggering another round of rain and thunderstorms over parts of northwest India.
Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana and Delhi are likely to experience isolated to scattered rainfall along with lightning and gusty winds between May 10 and 12. Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand may receive similar weather activity on May 11 and 12, the IMD said.

Before that, light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms is expected over Uttarakhand till May 8, while Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and east Rajasthan may witness rain activity on May 7. Uttar Pradesh is also likely to see thunderstorms on May 7.
Hailstorm warning in Bihar, Vidarbha and Telangana
The IMD has warned of isolated hailstorm activity in Bihar and Vidarbha on May 7, while Telangana may also witness hailstorms during the day.
Eastern and northeastern states are expected to continue receiving widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds.
Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal are likely to receive heavy rainfall on May 7, as per the IMD.
Gangetic West Bengal may witness thundersquall activity with wind speeds reaching up to 70 kmph on May 9.

For Delhi-NCR, the IMD has predicted partly cloudy skies with chances of thunderstorm development on May 7. The maximum temperature is expected to remain between 36-38 degrees Celsius.
The weather office said temperatures in the national capital are likely to rise gradually from May 8 onwards, with the mercury touching up to 40 degrees Celsius by May 9.
The IMD also forecast heatwave conditions in isolated pockets of west Rajasthan between May 9 and 11. Hot and humid weather is likely over Konkan and Goa till May 9 and along coastal Gujarat between May 9 and 12.
