Two Indian-flagged LPG carriers — Green Sanvi and Green Asha — have safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz, government sources have told CNBC-TV18, even as
tensions in the region continue to disrupt energy flows.
The vessels are expected to reach Indian ports by April 7 and April 9, respectively. The Ministry of Shipping said that 16 Indian-flagged vessels are currently present in the Hormuz region.
Officials clarified that there has been no communication with Iran regarding payments to facilitate vessel movement through the strait.

Amid concerns over supply disruptions, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) said India has tied up additional LPG cargoes and currently has sufficient fuel supplies. Oil marketing companies (OMCs) are conducting daily field inspections, and no shortages have been reported at LPG dealerships.
Online LPG bookings have reached a record 97%, while the availability of smaller 5 kg cylinders, often used by migrant workers, remains adequate, with average daily sales exceeding 90,000 units.
The government said gas supply to fertiliser plants has been increased to 90% from Tuesday, with an additional 10% allocation to the city gas distribution (CGD) sector. Adequate stocks of petrol and diesel are also available, with domestic fuel prices remaining lower than in neighbouring countries.

However, officials acknowledged that a fall in LPG imports is a concern, with supplies impacted by the ongoing geopolitical situation.
The government is seeking to bridge the gap by boosting domestic production and prioritising household consumption, while supplying commercial LPG in a calibrated manner.
Authorities are also considering enhancing strategic reserves as crude oil and gas prices remain highly volatile. Natural gas supplies have been affected by force majeure in Qatar, though availability is now improving, with spot LNG helping raise supply to the fertiliser sector.
Officials said the situation remains dynamic and further decisions will be taken as developments unfold.
