What is the story about?
The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) Undertaking resumed bus services from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), days after operations were suspended due to the ongoing Maratha quota agitation, an
official confirmed.
The restoration of services came as a major relief to daily commuters, particularly office-goers heading to Nariman Point, Backbay, and Colaba, who had been forced to walk to work amid disruptions. Over the past few days, protestors had clogged the major junction outside CSMT, bringing traffic and public transport to a standstill.
The agitation, led by activist Manoj Jarange Patil, drew thousands of Maratha community members into South Mumbai, significantly affecting BEST operations in and around
CSMT.
"Bus services from the CSMT depot have resumed. Routes 138 and 115 are now operational," a BEST official told PTI.
Traffic police have opened both lanes of DN Road—from JJ Flyover to Hutatma Chowk—for vehicular movement.
