What is the story about?
A spell of rain accompanied by thunderstorms, hail and strong winds is likely to persist across several parts of India as an active western disturbance continues to influence weather systems across the country, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The disturbance, along with multiple cyclonic circulations across northern and central India, is expected to bring rainfall activity across several regions in the coming days, the IMD said in its weather bulletin.
The department also indicated that daytime temperatures across much of northwest, central and eastern India may remain below or near normal for the next three to four days before gradually rising.
Rain and storms expected in northern states
Widespread light to moderate rain or snowfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds is expected over parts of the western Himalayan region during the coming days.
Areas including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are likely to experience scattered rainfall along with lightning and winds reaching up to 50 kmph, the IMD said.

Parts of the northern plains — including Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and eastern Rajasthan — may also see isolated spells of rainfall and thunderstorms, it added.
Another western disturbance is expected to approach the western Himalayan region from April 11, which could influence weather conditions further, the IMD noted.
Northeast and eastern India likely to receive heavy rain
The IMD has forecast fairly widespread rainfall across northeastern states over the next five days. Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds of up to 50 kmph are expected in several parts of the region.
Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Arunachal Pradesh on April 9 and 12, while Assam and Meghalaya may experience heavy showers on April 9 and 10. Tripura may also see heavy rainfall on April 9.
In eastern India, states such as West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha may experience scattered rainfall along with thunderstorms and gusty winds in the coming days. Strong thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching up to 80 kmph are also possible in parts of Gangetic West Bengal.

Central India, including Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, may witness isolated rainfall and thunderstorms in the coming days due to the prevailing cyclonic circulation.
Meanwhile, southern states such as coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu and Telangana may see isolated rainfall accompanied by lightning, the IMD said.
The IMD also warned of hot and humid conditions in isolated pockets of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and coastal Karnataka over the next few days.
Delhi likely to see clear skies from April 9
For Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), the IMD has forecast mainly clear skies from April 9 onward.
