Chilling CCTV visuals have surfaced showing the aircraft carrying Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP chief Ajit Pawar plunging towards the ground moments before a deadly crash near Baramati in Pune district.
The footage, recorded by a roadside camera close to the impact site, captured the plane’s sharp descent, followed by a sudden flash as it hits the ground.
Within seconds of impact, a massive fireball erupted from the crash site, with thick black smoke billowing into the air and engulfing the surrounding area.
The video has since circulated widely, offering a grim glimpse into the final moments of the ill-fated flight.
Five killed as aircraft crashes during landing
The crash claimed the lives of Ajit Pawar, 66, and four others who were on board the aircraft. The plane was attempting to land near Baramati when it went down around 8:48 am after taking off from Mumbai at 8:10 am.
Visuals from the crash site showed raging flames, mangled debris strewn across the ground and emergency vehicles rushing in as local residents attempted to help.
Authorities said the aircraft reportedly lost control during the landing phase.
Emergency response and investigation underway
Emergency services and senior security officials were deployed immediately after the incident. Rescue teams reached the site soon after the crash, and three bodies were rushed to Baramati Medical College for further procedures.
The Pune Superintendent of Police said the process of identifying the bodies was underway, as per News18.
A team from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) also arrived at the site to assess the wreckage, with officials stating that further details were awaited.
Family reaches hospital
Pawar was travelling from Mumbai to Baramati to attend a public meeting amid the ongoing elections to Zilla Parishads and Panchayat Samitis.
Following confirmation of the tragedy, his family moved towards Baramati.
His wife and NCP MP Sunetra Pawar, son Parth, and cousin and NCP-SP leader Supriya Sule also reached the hospital.
