The development happened a day after Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu said the government will curtail IndiGo's winter flight schedule and allocate them to other operators following the airline's recent large-scale operational disruptions.
"We will curtail IndiGo's routes. They are currently operating 2,200 flights. We will definitely curtail them," Naidu told Doordarshan news channel.
The minister said refunds worth ₹745 crore have been given for 7,30,655 cancelled PNRs from December 1 to 8 (as of 5 pm).
The crisis continues for the domestic carrier as the airline experiences disruptions and cancellations. As many as 121 flights were cancelled at the Bengaluru airport, and another 58 at the Hyderabad airport. The chaos continues at major airports as passengers are left in the lurch due to crew rostering and internal operational issues.
The Ministry has deployed senior officers for on-ground inspection at 10 major airports amid the ongoing IndiGo crisis. Officers at the level of Deputy Secretary Director and Joint Secretary of the Ministry have been asked to physically visit all major airports within the coming days to assess the on-ground situation comprehensively. The airports include Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Pune, Guwahati, Goa, Thiruvananthapuram, news agency ANI reported.
