A Welcoming Entrance
Remo D'Souza and his wife Lizelle have opened the doors to their Mumbai residence, known as 'Sabr,' offering a detailed look at a home that embodies their journey
and shared life. This dwelling is more than just an architectural space; it's a canvas where their deep-rooted faith, strong family bonds, and creative spirits converge. The name 'Sabr' itself suggests patience and resilience, mirroring the choreographer's professional path and personal values. The home's design philosophy masterfully balances a clean, minimalist foundation with bursts of colour and personal mementos, creating an environment that is both sophisticated and deeply personal. Each area within 'Sabr' tells a story, from the inviting living spaces designed for relaxation to the dedicated corners that celebrate their spiritual beliefs and artistic passions, making it a true reflection of their identity.
Elegant Living Spaces
The main living hall of 'Sabr' immediately establishes a tone of understated elegance and comfort. Adorned with plush, soft grey sofas, this area invites relaxation and conversation. Striking pieces of art punctuate the walls, adding visual interest and personality without overwhelming the serene atmosphere. The open-plan layout, enhanced by a clear glass partition that seamlessly connects the hall to the dining area, contributes to an airy and spacious feel. This thoughtful design choice promotes a sense of connection while maintaining distinct functional zones. The overall aesthetic leans towards a sophisticated minimalism, ensuring the space feels both refined and incredibly welcoming. It’s a testament to a design approach that prioritizes comfort and style in equal measure, making it perfect for both casual family gatherings and entertaining guests.
Luxe Dining Ambiance
Transitioning from the calm of the living area, the dining space exudes a more opulent and refined charm. At its heart lies a sleek dining table with a luxurious marble top, serving as the centerpiece for shared meals and memorable conversations. The surrounding walls are treated with reflective mirrored surfaces, ingeniously amplifying the sense of space and light, while a tasteful crystal chandelier casts a subtle, warm glow over the entire setting. Complementing these elements, rich wooden flooring grounds the area, adding a touch of natural warmth and sophistication. This blend of materials and textures creates an environment that is both grand and inviting, ideal for hosting dinner parties or enjoying intimate family feasts. It's a space where refined design meets everyday life, offering a touch of everyday luxury.
Vibrant Entertainment Zone
In contrast to the predominantly muted colour palette found elsewhere, the TV room in 'Sabr' bursts with playful energy and a more pronounced sense of personal style. This area is intentionally designed to be a vibrant escape, featuring bold blue walls that create a striking backdrop. Statement art pieces are strategically placed, adding character and conversation starters to the room. Chic decorative elements, such as Versace cushions, further enhance the room's luxurious yet eclectic feel. The ambiance is further refined by soft, ambient lighting and flowing linen curtains that drape elegantly. Large French windows allow ample natural light to flood the space, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere that feels both stylish and deeply comfortable. This room is a perfect example of how to infuse personality and colour into a home without compromising on elegance.
Sanctuary of Faith
What truly distinguishes Remo D'Souza's home is the profound integration of his and Lizelle's diverse spiritual beliefs. The house is a testament to their multi-faith perspective, featuring a statue of Mother Mary alongside several dedicated prayer spaces. A mandir, positioned near the entrance, is devoted to Lord Ganesha, invoking blessings and auspicious beginnings. Further into the home, another sacred area is thoughtfully arranged for Lord Shiva. The couple prioritized the creation of their outdoor temple, designing it before the main structure of the house was even completed. Situated in the auspicious northeast direction, the Shiva temple is home to a rare Shaligram, which is widely believed to be part of the world's smallest Shivling. This spiritual enclave is further enhanced by a tranquil waterfall feature, which the couple believes infuses the area with a divine and calming energy, underscoring the home's deep spiritual essence.
