Elegant Birthday Kickoff
The birthday season commenced with a delightful sit-down lunch hosted by astrologer Alka Chaturvedi at the sophisticated Arts Café, personally curated
by Isha Ambani. This intimate venue, adorned with books and art, evoked the warmth of a drawing-room, enhanced by a specially decorated private dining area for the occasion. The gathering saw prompt arrivals, a pleasant departure from the old 'Indian Stretchable Time' stereotype, and focused on genuine conversations rather than superficial air kisses. Post-lunch discussions over coffee and tea delved into diverse topics like Artemis, new medical research, the ongoing global conflicts, and, inevitably, opinions on the maverick Donald Trump. While cake cutting, singing, and gifts added to the celebratory spirit, it was these engaging dialogues that truly resonated, setting a warm and wonderful tone for the year ahead.
A Toast to Legacy
Food critic and author Rashmi Uday Singh was honored at an event held at the iconic Harbour Bar, celebrating a life lived with passion and grace. Singh's journey from an IAS officer to a renowned food critic, marked by extensive travel and collaboration with chefs, serves as an inspiration. The guest list comprised about thirty individuals with long-standing connections, fostering a nostalgic atmosphere reminiscent of a more curated Mumbai. Notable attendees included Jamuna Pai, Malavika Sanghvi, Mrunalini Deshmukh, Rita Dhody, Manju Sanghi, Alka Tyagi, Sangeeta Kathiawada, Mandira Bedi, and Dr. Rishma Pai. Chef Rohit Sangwan crafted a special menu drawing from the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel's culinary heritage, with each dish narrating a piece of the hotel's history. However, the true essence of the afternoon lay in the palpable mood and the vibrant conversations among friends who have known each other for decades, bridging the gaps created by Mumbai's relentless pace.
Nostalgic Celebrations
A recent birthday celebration for Poonam Dhillon and close friend Salil Chaturvedi, hosted by hair transplant specialist Dr. Pradeep Shetty, evoked early Bombay memories, including a legendary party hosted by Yash Chopra. The event took place at Mezzo Mezzo in the JW Marriott Mumbai Juhu, drawing a crowd that included prominent figures and aspiring individuals seeking introductions. Ashish Raheja acknowledged Salil Chaturvedi's entrepreneurial spirit in founding Provogue, a pioneer in athleisure. Poonam Dhillon and Salil Chaturvedi cut four large cakes, though the calorie-conscious attendees largely abstained. The party was characterized by its boisterous bar, which remained the evening's focal point, and the usual Mumbai blend of loud, layered, and chaotic energy, reminiscent of scenes from 'Page 3.' The event also prompted a personal observation on the perceived youthful appearance of Mumbai women compared to their male counterparts.
