A Sprawling New SUV
Toyota has officially confirmed that its highly anticipated 'something new' is, in fact, a large SUV designed with three rows of seating, putting an end
to earlier speculation about it being a pickup truck. This latest official preview reveals a vehicle with a decidedly boxy silhouette, suggesting ample interior space. Adding to the sense of spaciousness, the interior preview showcases a luxurious second row featuring captain's chairs, complete with individual climate control for passengers. This configuration strongly suggests a six-seat layout, prioritizing generous legroom for occupants in all rows, especially those in the rear. The design cues, particularly the taillight design and the connected LED strip, bear a striking resemblance to the bZ Large concept that was showcased in 2021, indicating a potential production version of that concept vehicle. It is expected that the final production model will incorporate traditional side mirrors and more conventional door handles for everyday usability.
Expected Features and Collaboration
While the official name for this new SUV remains undisclosed, there is a strong possibility that it will be a production variant inspired by the bZ Large concept shown in 2021. The design language, particularly the connected LED taillights, closely echoes the concept's aesthetic. Anticipated to arrive later this year, possibly as a 2027 model year vehicle, this SUV is expected to be comparable in size to the Highlander. Intriguingly, this development is part of an ongoing EV collaboration with Subaru. This partnership has previously resulted in models like the bZ Woodland/Trailseeker and the bZ/Solterra. Although it is not yet definitively confirmed whether this new SUV will be fully electric or a gasoline-powered model, or if it will be a larger iteration of the Innova and Fortuner, or even if it is destined for the Indian market, its global debut is scheduled for February 10th. The introduction of a familiar nameplate paired with a substantial vehicle offering flexible seating could significantly bolster the brand's sales in various markets.
