Widespread Product Recall
A significant number of food jars and beverage bottles have been withdrawn from markets across the globe, impacting an estimated 8.2 million units. This
large-scale recall was prompted by numerous reports of injuries sustained by users. Disturbingly, some of these incidents have resulted in permanent vision damage, bringing a heightened sense of urgency to the situation. The affected products, commonly found in kitchens and for on-the-go use, are now under intense scrutiny due to this critical safety flaw discovered after years of consumer use and feedback. The extensive nature of this recall underscores the severity of the potential hazard and the commitment to consumer safety.
Stopper Malfunction Causes Injuries
At least 27 complaints have detailed how the product's stopper can unexpectedly eject with significant force when opened. This sudden expulsion has led to various injuries, with three individuals experiencing permanent vision loss. The underlying cause is a design flaw in the stopper that lacks an adequate pressure-release system.
Affected Models Identified
The recall specifically targets Stainless King Food Jars (models SK3000 and SK3020) manufactured before July 2023, and all Sportsman Food & Beverage Bottles (model SK3010). These products, sold between March 2008 and July 2024 across major retailers like Target, Walmart, and Amazon, are identified by the brand name and often have model details at the base.
Immediate Action Advised
Consumers are strongly urged to stop using the identified products without delay. The company is offering solutions, including replacement stoppers with enhanced safety features or entirely new product replacements, depending on the specific item affected by the recall.
