Williamsburg: Altbau, the newest bakery project from the acclaimed and highly influential bread baker Chad Robertson of Tartine, opens on Thursday, October 29. As Eater NY’s Melissa McCart reported earlier this year, the spacious former warehouse will also include an on-site mill producing flour from East Coast grains. Brownsville: Following locations in Brooklyn and New Jersey, entrepreneur, restaurateur, and affordable housing developer Adenah Bayoh debuts the newest location of his soul food restaurantCornbread on Wednesday, October 28. Cornbread brings one of NYC’s most historically underserved communities its first sit-down restaurant in nearly 60 years as part of a $3 million investment in the neighborhood and revitalization goals of the Brownsville Plan. Chelsea: Billed as Chelsea’s newest stage for private events and stylish celebrations, the new Mallory at Terminal Warehouse reinvents the 50,000-square-foot landmark West Side building. The luxe, three-story venue with sweeping Hudson River views pays tribute to West Side cowboys, ‘70s glam, the iconic Tunnel nightclub, and other eras that shaped the century-old property. The official opening is Thursday, October 29, with – of course – a big party. 234 12th Avenue, between West 27th and West 28th streets
Chelsea: Danish coffee company La Cabra opened its new flagship location on Friday, October 16, in the luxury condo building Lantern House. The company got its start in 2011 in Denmark, then opened its first location in the United States in the East Village in 2021. With locations in Soho and Bushwick, the chain has become known for both its beans and its baked goods, namely its cardamon buns. Given the shop’s location by the High Line, its stylish interiors take cues from Denmark’s IC3 train. 515 West 18th Street, between 10th and 11th avenues
Flatiron: Korean American restaurant Giuk, which means “memory,” opened on Tuesday, October 27. Its lunch menu centers on customizable bibimbap and soondubu stew, both of which are served with banchan, while its more expansive night menu features dishes such as corn ribs, doenjang shiitake pasta, and galbijim with burdock risotto. Cocktails will continue the theme of Korean American nostalgia, including the Dirty Bong Bong, which is made with rum, lime, coconut jelly, and Bong Bong grape juice. 41 West 24th Street, between Fifth and Sixth avenues
Flatiron: Norte, a new Mexican steakhouse from Alberto Martínez, the restaurateur behind Cuerno, opens on Wednesday, October 28. It’s billed as a neighborhood steakhouse, compared to Cuerno’s more high-end approach. (The latter drew attention for its taco taquero, featuring steak tacos assembled tableside.) In addition to meats grilled over an open fire, it will offer a raw bar, including tostadas and aguachiles. 39 West 19th Street, between Fifth and Sixth avenues
Fort Greene: Sometimes-rapper, sometimes-rock star, and maybe Dakota Johnson paramour Machine Gun Kelly (MGK) opened the latest edition of his punk-rock cafe, 27 Club Coffee, in Brooklyn on Sunday, October 18. 47 Adelphi Street, Brooklyn-Queens Expressway
Jamaica: At 6,935 square feet and more than 200 seats, Eataly’s largest airport location in North America debuted on Tuesday, October 20. Located inside Terminal 4 of JFK International Airport, the setup includes a restaurant, a wine bar, and a grab-and-go marketplace. Flyers can choose from antipasti, Italian pizza, pasta, Italian sweets, salads, wine, or cocktails. JFKIAT, the operator of Terminal 4 – JFK’s biggest – also brought NY-loving dining options like Brooklyn Tea & Market, FIELDTRIP, Bessou, Chopt, and Dos Toros there as part of a large-scale airport redevelopment plan. Long Island City: Just in time for the cold weather, Irion, a new Korean restaurant promising a focus on warmth and comfort, opened on Monday, September 26. Its streamlined menu is anchored by soups, offering both gomtang (beef bone soup) and gamjatang (a spicy pork bone soup). It will also serve snackier bites, raw marinated seafood, and a limited daily quantity of bo ssam. A designated space called On-N-Out will offer to-go food including banchan. 21-59 44th Drive, at 23rd Street
Lower East Side: Hip Parisian clothier Brut Archives teamed up with Roman Grandinetti, the mastermind behind NYC’s beloved Italian eatery Regina’s Grocery, to open a too-cool-for-school coffee shop called Brut Orchard Coffee this month. A green awning promoting “coffee and sundae every day for takeaway” is repeated on stained-glass light fixtures inside, with a few tables out front. Stylish branded merch is obviously a thing out of the gate. 37B Orchard Street, near Hester Street
Lower East Side: Ian Schrager’s the Public Hotel is banking on a new brasserie to make the posh address a dining destination again with the opening of Buddy & Son on Monday, October 26. Shelley Armistead – former CEO for Gjelina Group until she left in 2025 – joins former Gjelina chef Jake Epstein on the project. Look for seafood towers; Dover sole in beurre blanc; a crab cake with gribiche; and oyster mushrooms with cognac and creme fraiche. 215 Chrystie Street, at East Houston Street
Midtown: Dearbros, a comfort-food restaurant from Osaka, Japan, opened on Tuesday, October 20 as a pop-up inside the Japanese cafe BentOn, where it will continue operating until the end of the year. It focuses on omurice, the Japanese dish of fried rice topped with a gooey omelette, with toppings such as wagyu sukiyaki and braised pork belly. (The latter will be available in limited quantities while the pop-up gets going.) The restaurant is a popular destination in the famous Dotonbori area of Osaka. 156 East 45th Street, at Third Avenue
Nolita: The cutely named, Denver-style breakfast burrito joint Burrito Bear debuts on Thursday, October 22. The fast-casual spot from a trio of best friends specializes in burritos slathered in Colorado-style green chile (savory pork stew) and stuffed with chorizo, eggs, and chicken. 380 Broome Street, at Mott Street
Parkslope: A 5th Avenue stretch of Brooklyn is quickly becoming a top destination for Georgian cuisine. The latest arrival is Sesilya, which debuted in the old Negril BK on Thursday, October 22, with the bakery component to start; the full-service restaurant will join the fold later this year, points out Park Slope Living. Meanwhile, Georgian coffee and wine bar Lileo previously opened this year a few blocks north. At Sesilya, co-owner David Kitiashvili teamed up with childhood friends from Tbilisi, Georgia, to serve family recipes, boat-shaped cheesy bread (khachapuri), and the Georgian wines its culture is long known for across a pretty, nude-toned dining room wrapped in sleek wood. 254 5th Avenue, at Carroll Street, Brooklyn
Tribeca: NowHere Cafe opened on Wednesday, October 7, inside NowHere, the gallery that describes itself as “a multidisciplinary hub for New York City-based creators whose work is influenced by Japanese culture.” The cafe will feature coffee, matcha, and other Japanese teas such as hojicha and sobacha. Patisserie Fouet will be providing the pastries, while Taku Sando will be handling the tamago sandos, made with Karashi mustard mayo and served on shokupan. 40 Lispenard Street, near Church Street
Soho: This isn’t your average fast-casual spot: Cholapink opened on Wednesday, October 28, touting reggaeton star Daddy Yankee as its co-founder. His partner in the project is chef Jaime Pesaque, whose restaurant Mayta in Lima, Peru, is featured on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list. Its menu will include anticuchos (grilled skewers of meat), plus sides such as ceviche and chaufa (fried rice). 32 Spring Street, near Mott Street
Union Square: Lou Yau Kee, the popular NYC stop for Singaporean comfort foods (namely, Hainan chicken rice), is back at Time Out Market Union Square. The food hall stall debuted on Monday, October 19, joining Lou Yau Kee’s existing locale in Vanderbilt Market. 124 E. 14th Street, at Irving Place
Union Square: Restaurateur Eytan Sugarman andHudson Street Hospitality (Keepers,White Horse Tavern,Dandelion, andMade in New York Pizza) resurrect their West Village restaurant Ambra with the opening of Bar Ambra on Wednesday, October 21, inside the lobby lounge atHyatt Union Square. With a focus on Italian aperitivo culture, while nodding to the space’s past as the Library of Distilled Spirits, look for spritzes of all sorts. There’s a nostalgic take on an Italian Ice with Aperol, blood orange juice, limoncello, fresh lemon, and prosecco, topped with a dollop of lemon sorbetto; savory Sunday Sauce spritz with tomato gin; tiramisu espresso martini, and nutty Marzapane Negroni. For food, fried artichokes with chorizo-stuffed Cerignola olives; lasagna skewers; and a bone marrow-blended burger with pepperoncini aioli. 134 Fourth Avenue, at Cornell Edwards Way
West Village: Dessert company Fillings opens its first pop-up shop on Thursday, October 29. It’ll offer five classic pies (e.g., coconut key lime pie, milk and cookies, PB & J) plus a rotating flavor that’ll change weekly, with whole pies available in addition to three-slice or 9-slice pie flights. Since its official launch last year, the company’s mini pies have been available only through special drops and collaborations. West Village: Grove Street Social, the cozy neighborhood hangout for burgers and cocktails, added a bookable offshoot for events and parties called Grove Next Door on Thursday, October 22. West Brighton: MŌRE Sushi, a modern Pan-Asian restaurant and bar located inSky Three Residences Club in West Brighton, debuted on Monday, October 26. Look for a la carte sushi, never-frozen seafood, salads, hot dishes, and bento lunches. A special Sunday omakase menu comes with a curated selection of premium sake, wines by the glass, and cocktails. Williamsburg: The highly anticipated Brooklyn outpost of the frozen yogurt shop Birdie’s opened on Saturday, October 24. As with its West Village location, the shop drew a long line. Unlike some DIY froyo shops, staffers load up cups of yogurt with toppings such as cookie dough, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, peanut butter cups, passionfruit sauce, and “hazelnut crunch” sauce. It takes the place of the bubble tea shop Möge Tee, which quietly closed earlier this year. 76 North 4th Street, between Wythe Avenue and Berry Street
Williamsburg: Rocky’s, a daytime cafe up front that leads the way to a new sports bar in the back, opened Monday, October 19. The Italian-American lineup stars hand-rolled pastas to go along with craft cocktails served at a big central bar and 12 screens throughout. The spacious setup lined in white brick and lit up in red offers arcade entertainment like Pac-Man, too. 21 Broadway, Brooklyn

Nomad: Boston’s popular udon shop Yume Ga Arukara celebrated its long-awaited full opening on Wednesday, October 21. Its menu centers on udon noodles made daily in-house, available in four cold options and four hot options. The restaurant started in 2017 as a no-frills noodle counter in a food court at Lesley University (technically in Cambridge, Massachusetts) and quickly got national attention. It opened a second location in Boston’s Seaport neighborhood in 2024. This location marks the restaurant’s first venture outside Massachusetts. The restaurant is a mainstay of Eater’s list of the best Japanese restaurants around Boston. 271 Fifth Avenue, between East 29th and 30th streets

Astoria: Dovetail Bakery, which got its start as a pop-up in 2024, opened a storefront on Tuesday, October 20. In what appears to be a growing trend around the city, it highlights stone-milled flours sourced from the Northeast in bread and other pastries. The bakery will serve sandwiches for lunch and has plans to offer afternoon tea service on weekends and aperitivo in the evening. It previously had a residency in Sunnyside’s Arcobaleno Gelateria. 31-05 35th Avenue, between 31st and 32nd streets
East Village: Chong, a stylish new cafe focused on Thai tea and desserts, opened on Saturday, October 10. It offers Thai tea both hot and iced, with flavors such as coconut, lime, and lychee. The food menu features thick toast topped with ice cream, plus Thai steamed bread with custard infused with pandan, Thai tea, and other flavors. The opening continues a wave of new tea-centric spots across the city. 210 E. 10th Street, at Second Avenue
Glen Oaks: Punjabi Dhaba, the Queens institution for Indian cuisine for the past 20 years, added a second location in Queens on Sunday, October 18. Punjabi Dhaba, one of the first South Asian restaurants to open in Richmond Hill back in 2006, is known for its spot-on takes on vegetarian comfort dishes and sweets that won’t break the bank. 259-11 Hillside Avenue, near 268th Street
Hell’s Kitchen: Cocktail Test Kitchen, a new 22-seat bar and experimental drinking lab from Major Food Group veterans Patrick Wert, Brad Nugent and James Kaspari, opens Wednesday, October 21, in a 400-square-foot space. The cozy, sleek setup is a glowing neighborhood bar up front and a cocktail research and development lab in the back. Look for frozen martinis, spins on classic cocktails, and small bites like pizza bagels. The team’s nationwide beverage management company, Innovative Beverage Strategies, debuts drinks here first – letting customer feedback shape the final recipe before it lands on a menu anywhere else. 359 W. 54th Street, between Eighth and Ninth avenues
Lower East Side: Although longtime NYC restaurant Cafe Gitane closed in Nolita late last year, it reopened in downtown Manhattan on Saturday, October 17, in the former location of vegan restaurant Jajaja. It’s starting with dinner service, with breakfast, lunch, and brunch being added later. It kept its Brooklyn location running in the meantime, too. 162 E. Broadway, at Rutgers Street
Midtown: Bazza, described as a “Caribbean-forward lounge rooted in Dominican culture, opened on Tuesday, October 20. It offers cocktails and dishes such as chuleta, fried snapper, and pollo a la brasa, all offered with sides including tostones and yucca fries with truffle and Parmesan. 251 W. 30th Street, near Eighth Avenue
Nolita: Jeju Noodle Bar, which first opened in the West Village in 2017, welcomed a second location on Friday, October 16. The restaurant has been highly acclaimed for its creative approach to Korean comfort food, with the new location serving dishes such as Jeju “chikin fingers” (a riff on the original’s hit fried chicken platter) and French onion style ramyun. The restaurant was first awarded a Michelin star in 2018, and it continues to hold one star. The restaurant remains among the city’s more affordable restaurants with Michelin stars. 204 Elizabeth Street, between Prince and Spring streets
Nomad: Chic new Parisian bistro Delphine Brasserie checked into the hip Ace Hotel in NoMad this October. For starters, there’s oysters on the half shell with Champagne-yuzu mignonette, yellowtail crudo, and escargots, followed by steak au poivre with pommes frites. Poulet de Bresse, France’s prized chicken, feeds two and comes with charred lemon and cognac jus. Delphine comes from four hospitality bigwigs: Karim Amatullah (KRM Group), KyKy Conille (Kyky and Unik), and Mino Habib and Mathias Van Leyden (Loulou Petit Bistro & Speakeasy and Le Petit Village Brasserie). 16 W. 29th Street, near Fifth Avenue
Prospect Heights: A Ten Degrees alum transformed the former Franklin 820 space in Brooklyn into a new corner bar called Wilkie that serves no-fuss cocktails, cold beer, and drinking snacks like chicken schnitzel, Spam musubi, and Danger dogs, with a rubber stamp that inks napkins with its blue logo. The neighborhood hang, located a block south of the Franklin Avenue subway stop, Wikie opens on Wednesday, October 21, at 4 p.m., and per a comment on Instagram, there will be karaoke once its full license is in order. 820 Franklin Avenue, near Union Street
Union Square: Heytea’s expansion across the city continued with the opening of its new Gelato Lab+ on Friday, October 16. The tea chain describes its “lab” concepts as spaces in which the chain “reimagine[s] the infinite possibilities of tea” through formats such as cake, baked goods, and gelato. The shop will feature the chain’s teas and popular flavor combinations in the form of mango-coconut sticky rice gelato, jasmine-yuzu sorbet, and more. 863 Broadway, between East 17th and 18th streets

Midtown: One Bryant Park — an approximately 10,000-square-foot Japanese culinary destination opening inside the Bank of America Tower — brings three dining experiences under one roof in what had beenAureole. And the four chefs behind them have helped lead prior spots to Michelin stars. The flagship is the namesake 150-seat Japanese fine-dining restaurant led by chefs Tadaaki Ishizaki and Shuji Furukawa, offering both a la carte and a tasting menu that threads French techniques by way of Japanese ingredients. Ishizaki had been the culinary director for two-Michelin-starred Odo; Furukawa led the Michelin-starred Restaurant Yuu. Two counters tuck into the space beyond the flagship: One is Kumiko Room, a 14-seat omakase sushi bar from master Edomae sushi chefYoshihiko Kousaka, whose restaurants (Jewel Bako, Kosaka) have also landed Michelin stars. Both are opening on Thursday, October 15. The drink list will include more than 500 sake and French wine selections, Japanese whisky, and refined cocktails. The third space involves the relocation ofKappo Sono, a 10-seat kaiseki experience led by chef Chikara Sono (formerly of Michelin-starred Kyo Ya). Bay Ridge:A new Egyptian restaurant entered the Brooklyn chat last month. Sofra, which means “table” in Arabic, comes from co-owner Mohamed Elbhery and chef Mohamed Shaaban — two childhood friends who grew up together in Alexandria before reuniting in the U.S., with also-Alexandria-raised friend Happy Fahmy. Highlights include koshari, Egypt’s national dish of rice, lentils, pasta, and chickpeas; Alexandrian-style hawawshi; and macarona bechamel. The Koftaco combines seasoned kofta beef with crisp salad, crumbled feta, and pickled onions in an Egyptian-inspired smash taco. Balady (a traditional Egyptian flatbread) and fino bread use a sourdough starter that Shaaban and his wife began during the pandemic. Desserts include a semolina cake soaked in fragrant syrup and topped with toasted almonds, a chocolate-tahini cake, and banana-date cookies. The spacious dining room is decked out in elegant wallpapers, paintings, and furnishings reminiscent of Cairo. 8915 Fifth Avenue, at 90th Street
Chelsea: Colombian cuisine is having a major moment in NYC, and the latest spot to enter the fold isGuayara. The months-long residency inside Kimpton Hotel Eventi, debuting Thursday, October 15, takes over the upstairs speakeasy lounge Back Bar. Chief creative officer Andres Soler (a Colombian-born hospitality vet who’s worked at places like Keen’s Steakhouse, Bowery Meat Company, and Zuma) explores Colombian cuisine and cocktails synonymous with the country’s five distinct regions. At the bar, Colombian aguardientes and rums join ingredients like lulo, cacao, panela, chontaduro, and coffee. Modern spins on Colombian dishes include empanadas, morcilla croquetas, arepa de ceniza, and chicharrón de barriga, all served in a 35-seat space dressed up with Colombian-made art and ceramics. East Village: Japanese restaurant Kotobuki is back after a long wait, having opened its newest location on Tuesday, September 29. The restaurant has had an on-and-off relationship with the neighborhood. It first opened on Third Avenue in 2012, closed in 2014, and returned in 2016. The restaurant closed again in 2023 following changes to the building it was in, and the company promised that the restaurant would move to a new location. The chain, which serves sushi and sashimi alongside cooked dishes, also has three locations on Long Island. 8 Stuyvesant Street, at East Ninth Street
Flatiron: San Francisco staple Bun Mee opened its first location outside of California on Thursday, October 8. Denise Tran started the company, which has five locations in San Francisco, in 2011, but its New York City location (and the two planned follow-ups) will be operated by John McClave, who works in real estate; his wife, Nam Hoang; their son, Egan; and Hoang’s brother, Huy. It serves banh mi in addition to salad, noodle, or rice bowls, plus sides including fries and chicken wings. 115 E. 23rd Street, between Park Avenue South and Lexington Avenue
Greenwich Village: The latest entrant to the city’s continued fro-yo boom is Sworl, which opened on Saturday, October 10, promising macros-focused protein froyo. It claims to have more protein, more fiber, and less sugar than its competitors, and comes in flavors such as whipped vanilla and coconut-ube. Unlike many new fro-yo shops around the city, it charges not by weight but by cup size, with toppings (such as coconut chips and protein cereal) available for $1.50 each. 192 Bleecker Street, near MacDougal Street
Lower East Side: Crybaby brings Alpine wines, food, and lots of Chartreuse to the Lower East Side on Thursday, October 15. Chef Jay Rodriguez of pop-up dinner seriesHera leans into the Alps with everything from dessert-course cheeses to a French dip with a teacup of au jus. The bar comes from co-owners Jeffrey Rogers (founder of Seattle bars likeJupiter), Amber Strickland, and sommelier Cameron Philip (formerCoqodaq sommelier andCote manager). 153 Bowery, at Broome Street
Midtown: Sakasama, a new hand roll and temaki restaurant and sake bar, opened on Tuesday, October 13, from chef Georgie Castillo, an alum of Atoboy and Le Coucou. The format of the meal differs depending on where diners sit: The sushi counter offers hand rolls, while the same fillings are used for temaki for diners at tables. Sets range between $22 and $40. The restaurant will also serve seafood-topped toasts on Japanese milk bread. 344 W. 46th Street, between Eighth and Ninth avenues
Nomad: Teo Nomad, a Korean cafe and restaurant with a knack for hot teas and green matchas by day that are spiked with alcohol at night, opened on Tuesday, October 6. Founder Shine Shin sources 100-percent organic malcha (which means “matcha” in Korean) from Hadong, a historic region with over 1,200 years of tea time. The sleek white space also features a private Korean tea room, a plant-centric menu full of sweets and small plates built around seasonal vegetables and seafood, and a house-brewed makgeolli program. 135 W. 29th Street, between Sixth and Seventh avenues
Park Slope: New Orleans-styled Voodoo Queen brought gumbo, fried green tomatoes, shrimp and grits, smoked ribs, and other Southern comfort foods to Brooklyn on Tuesday, October 6, with Big Easy cocktails in the mix, too. Co-owners George Constantinou and Farid Ali run Mil Gustos Hospitality Group (Bogota Latin Bistro, Miti Miti, and Medusa the Greek). 147 Fifth Avenue, between St Johns and Lincoln Place
Prospect Heights: SSRP — a Japanese ramen house and izakaya that stands for “slurp, sip, repeat” — opened up in a Brooklyn brownstone on Saturday, October 11. The star of the show is bowls of tonkotsu ramen built with slow-simmered broth, slow-cooked pork chashu, and house-made noodles. The industrial-styled corner setup sports a slurping black cat as its logo and lit-up verbiage spelled out in caps lock. 565 Vanderbilt Avenue, at Pacific Street
Soho: Good Company, a new restaurant from the team behind Yesterday’s, opened on Thursday, October 8, with chef Robert Sieber, an alum of Jungsik and Montauk’s The Surf Lodge, running the kitchen. The menu includes focaccia toast with pimento goat cheese and pickled celery, wagyu French dip sliders, burgers, and a build-your-own banana split. The cocktail menu will include riffs on classic drinks, like an espresso martini with labneh foam. 343 West Broadway, between Broome and Grand streets
Washington Heights: Delmonico’s Hospitality Group, the parent company of Fidi steakhouse institution Delmonico’s, debuts a new all-day bakery and bistro based on bread on Thursday, October 15. Boogie Bakery & Bistro centers around focaccia, sandwiches, and sourdough pasta, with breakfast, lunch, and dinner service six days a week. Sourdough made daily by hand from flour, water, and salt in the open kitchen is backed by a patented process; Boogie Bakery & Bistro marks the U.S. restaurant debut ofBoogie Lab, a popular European sourdough brand. 4015 Broadway, at West 169th Street
West Village: Daniel Humm’s highly anticipated Humm opened on Saturday, October 10. Predictably, reservations for this more casual follow-up to Eleven Madison Park went fast. Unlike the fine-dining restaurant where the full tasting runs $385 per person, Humm’s menu is entirely a la carte, with larger proteins between $48 and $125 (the latter is intended for two). Humm’s caviar-filled bagel has quickly gotten attention online. Williamsburg: Modern Mediterranean restaurant Naked Tomato opens on Wednesday, October 14, along the East River in Brooklyn. Chef Eyal Shani, who leads the kitchen at Greenwich Village’s Michelin-starred Shmoné, maintains a massive restaurant portfolio in other cities like Tel Aviv, Paris, Melbourne, London, and Miami (where the original Naked Tomato was born). This obviously red dining room sends out a meze menu full of dishes like Real Naked Tomato; bagged green beans perfumed with lemon-garlic vinaigrette; and a trio of chicken skewers. The chef’s tasting table at the open kitchen — a first for Shani — spotlights dishes like the North Abraxas burger meant to be eaten in “three bites only” and baguette bruschetta anchovies. 476 Kent Avenue, near South 11th Street
Williamsburg: The city’s new wave of Georgian establishments continued with the opening of Tbili, a Georgian cafe with homey decor, on Sunday, October 4. In addition to coffee and pastries, it serves Georgian specialties such as khachapuri, shoti bread (which will also be used to make the cafe’s sandwiches), and ajapsandali, a spicy eggplant stew. 442 Lorimer Street, near Maujer Street

Lincoln Center: Prolific French chef Daniel Boulud returns across from NYC’s cultural hub in a big way on Thursday, October 8, with the opening of Brasserie Boulud — a consolidation of his closed Upper West Side restaurants (Bar Boulud,Boulud Sud, and Épicerie Boulud) into one massive, 10,000-square-foot flagship. The classically French-leaning Brasserie Boulud features the greatest hits from each dearly missed restaurant in one combined menu. Expect seafood towers, French onion soup, steak frites, lobster souffle, and boudin blanc, along with the return of Boulud’s cult-favorite DB Burger. 1900 Broadway, at Lincoln Plaza

Bronx: After 14 years, neighborhood sports bar Triona’s closed its original location after the Chicago Bears game on Monday, September 28, but reopened next door on Friday, October 2, as Triona’s Vintage Sporting Club. The landmarked Scheffel Hall building dating back to the late-1800s was a German beer hall and restaurant and later housed the German-American Athletic Club and Fat Tuesday’s jazz club. Vintage sports memorabilia joins more than 20 screens and an updated Irish-leaning pub menu, with a continued love for the Bears and Michigan Wolverines. 190 Third Avenue, at East 17th Street
Chelsea: A chic taste of Verona landed in New York on Thursday, October 1, with the arrival of Italian wine bar and bistro Bar Lento. Lento, the Italian word for “slow,” features a brick-framed backdrop with a secret garden inside. The warm setup showcases a wine list of whites, bubbles, and pét-nats from Sardinia to Veneto to go along with seasonal plates like bruschetta and fluke ceviche in a citrus tomato vinaigrette. 158 Eighth Avenue, near West 18th Street

East Village: Table Mercato, Boston’s cult-favorite Italian sandwich shop that specializes in crispy chicken cutlets shoved between freshly baked focaccia, added its first NYC location in late September. Chef Jen Royle’s popular Sicilian and spicy vodka Parm sandwiches, priced in the mid-$20s a pop, commanded immediate long lines out front (open 11 a.m. until sell-out). Financial District: Nationwide ramen bar Kyuramen debuted a trio of fast-casual spots on one 9-to-5 strip in NY on Thursday, October 1. Kyuramen Express slings ramen, udon, rice bowls, sushi, onigiri, and appetizers; Bao Dumpling is a Chinese takeout with a knack for dumplings; and Aokō Matcha offers specialty green drinks and desserts. Lower East Side: Australia’s popular and prolific Gelato Messina has made its American debut, with the opening of Softville on Thursday, October 1. Continuing the city’s fancy soft serve moment, Softville will offer it, made using dairy from Ronnybrook Farm in the Hudson Valley, alongside an extensive and rotating menu of sauces and toppings. It also offers loaded sundaes, such as a birthday cake sundae featuring fior di latte soft serve, butter cake, strawberry pudding, “birthday crumble,” strawberry and white chocolate sauce, cream cheese chantilly cream, and sprinkles. A collaboration with Studio Jeremyville, the shop is described as an “art-led concept store,” in which Studio Jeremyville sculptures and other art will be on display. Lower East Side: Brazilian restaurant Iara opened on Friday, October 2, from chef Vitor Mendes, who previously worked at Brooklyn hot spot Theodora. Mendes cites a trip to his home country of Brazil following his father’s death as inspiration for the restaurant. Before it, he told Eater NY, “I thought that my own culture was rice, beans, and barbecue, as a lot of people might think.” At Iara, he’ll employ cassava in many ways: in the crispy cubes of tapioca served with yellowfin tuna and smoked biquinho peppers, in the vinaigrette paired with his hiramasi ceviche, in the fries that accompany his picanha, and more. 205 Allen Street, at East Houston Street
Park Slope: After shuttering his 120-year-old family bakery in Carroll Gardens earlier this spring, James Caputo is back in the baking business with Caputo Bagels, which opened Monday, October 5. The new bagel shop, a collaboration with Miriamowner Rafi Hasid next door, is all about hand-rolled sourdough bagels, open-face and breakfast sandwiches, as well as a familiar take on the bake shop’s famed lard bread. 81 Fifth Avenue, near Prospect Place
Red Hook: All-day diner and bar Vals debuted in Brooklyn at the beginning of October with a menu full of waffles, Denver omelets, blue-plate specials like spaghetti and meatballs, funnel cakes, and milkshakes. Located in the revived Fort Defiance, Vals’ name nods to the nearby Valentino Pier. Nicely priced drinks at the newly expanded bar include draft cocktails, well drinks, beer-shot combos, Negronis, martinis, and more. The new hangout comes from Victoria Viscusi, chef Allie Gassaway, and Laine Pelka, the latter two of which previously worked in the same space before. 347 Van Brunt Street, at Wolcott Street
Theater District: Diner 24, the Gramercy greasy spoon known for its giant shakes, hot dogs, and burgers served by singing waiters, added a flagship corner location in the heart of Times Square on Wednesday, October 6. Located right under the historical Lambs clubhouse, the new 235-seat Diner 24 that’s open around the clock also hosts hourly performances from actors with Broadway backgrounds from a dedicated 20-foot stage upstairs. “Mamma Mia” and milkshakes, anyone? 1674 Broadway, at 52nd Street
Times Square: Southern food chain Kitchen + Kocktails by Kevin Kelley, which started in Dallas in 2020, opened its first location in New York City. The restaurant, which is the chain’s largest, will serve dishes such as Cajun crab cakes, fried seafood and chicken, smothered steak, jerk lamb chops, and shrimp and grits. The opening continues the restaurant’s national expansion. It also has locations in Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Miami, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C., and will soon be opening in Boston and New Orleans. 7 Times Square, at Seventh Avenue and West 41st Street
West Village: Camari Mick’s long-awaited Calabash, billed as an Afro-Caribbean bakery and brasserie, opened for daytime service on Friday, October 2. Running from Thursday to Sunday, daytime service will feature Mick’s acclaimed baked goods, including sticky buns, coconut canelés, and beef patty croissants, plus cornbread pancakes with salted maple sabayon. Dinner service begins on Friday, October 9 and will be available for a single 6:30 p.m. seating on Friday and Saturday nights via prepaid bookings. It will offer dishes including suya steak frites using plantain fries and asun pasta with goat ragu and pappardelle. West Village: The team behindZimmi’s expands next door on Wednesday, October 7, with the debut of a tiny 15-seat wine bar and cafe called Bar à Part. Look for small plates, an extensive wine list, as well as savory and sweet pastries from acclaimed pastry chef Clodagh Manning – the Ireland native who previously worked at London’s now-closed Lyle’s. 72 Bedford Street, at Commerce Street
Williamsburg: A new steakhouse landed in the neighborhood with the opening of Booth’s Extra Fine on Tuesday, October 6. The restaurant comes from the team behind Nobody Told Me; it gets its name from chef Nick Pfannersteil’s grandfather, Booth, a Milwaukee car salesman with a penchant for steak and martinis. The menu will feature the requisite steaks and martinis, plus horseradish burgers, truffle ravioli, pork chops, rum cherry sundaes, and more. A nightly Martini Hour from 4 to 6 p.m. will offer $12 martinis, $5 mini hot dogs, $2 oysters, and half-priced caviar. Upper East Side: Prolific Southern chicken chain Zaxbys made its Manhattan debut on Wednesday, September 30. Along with its breaded chicken “fingerz” and a dozen sauces, the menu includes Buffalo wings and a salad section it calls “zalads.” Atlanta-based Zaxbys, founded in 1990, has more than 1,000 locations across 24 states. Upper East Side: NoMad cocktail lounge Obvio – home to the New York Times’ Martini of the Year — starts a semi-permanent residency at its Upper East Side sibling Casa Cruz on Thursday, October 1. Every Thursday to Saturday night, the second floor of the Beaux-Arts mansion — redesigned with Obvio’s giraffe-patterned calling card — imports Obvio favorites like the Tamarind Mezcalito along with pisco-centric drink debuts like a Marmalade martini from beverage director Amy Racine.
