The Logan Circle corridor will soon get a new takeout window serving one of D.C.’s best burgers well into the night. Nostalgia-inducing Joia plans to debut at 14th and T streets NW by the end of 2026, Eater has learned exclusively.
The Mt. Pleasant original,
open since 2024, expanded with a much bigger D.C. location in Glover Park the following spring. Joia’s Filipino chef-owner Patrice Cleary, who’s also behind the Eater 38-designated restaurant Purple Patch in Mt. Pleasant, focuses on wagyu beef (or veggie bean) smash burgers assembled with one, two, or three patties on a potato or gluten-free bun. She also serves popular thin-cut fries and brilliantly purple ube soft serve. Along with takeout-only service, Joia’s main difference on 14th Street NW will be the extended hours — open until 2 a.m. on weekdays and 3 a.m. on weekends, whereas the others close by 10 p.m.
“It’s more of a late-night area,” she tells Eater, noting that Dupont’s dearly missed pool hall, Buffalo Billiards, is making a comeback on the same strip soon. Around the neighborhood, legit burger options are on the rise after last call. U Street’s new-ish OzBurger, open until 4 a.m., is joined by the region’s latest all-halal Char’d a block south.
The tiny kitchen Joia’s taking over was formerly run by the now-closed Bar Pilar and used by Cafe Saint-Ex next door. Now that the corner bar has a tavern license, it doesn’t need one. The preexisting kitchen with a hood will undergo a Joia rebrand and makeover before opening.
Joia will continue to grow its D.C. presence next month with its first-ever kiosk inside Capital One Arena, the newly renovated home of the Washington Capitals and Wizards in Chinatown. The setup in Section 105 is scheduled to open in early October; the arena’s first big comeback concert is this week, with a two-night Garth Brooks performance.
Purple Patch, Cleary’s reliable destination for Filipino favorites like sizzling pork sisig and longanisa since 2015, is also headed to Capital One Arena. Cleary says she just secured a two-week residency to feed its fancy subterranean suites, known as the Vaults. Dates for the high-end tasting table are currently being ironed out for either the first half of November or January.
