East Village: Taiwanese bakery chain Bake Culture appears to have closed its neighborhood location, EV Grieve reports. Its Flushing and Chinatown locations remain open. 22 St. Marks Place, between Second and Third avenues
East Village: Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tart, known for its Japanese cheese tarts, closed its third location, as reported by EV Grieve. This bakery opened in 2023; its Koreatown and Chelsea locations appear to still be open. 166 Second Avenue, between East 10th and 11th streets
West Village: AnnTremet Cake — known for its pretty mousse cakes — closed its bakery on Monday, October 12. However, co-owners Annabelle Li and Peixin Lim, along with the team, will still make and sell catering cakes from their Long Island City production kitchen. 47 Eighth Avenue, at West Fourth Street

East Village: EV Grieve reports that Fat Boys Burgers, which had opened in the summer of 2025, closed its second location. The original Hell’s Kitchen location appears to still be open. 231 First Avenue, between East 13th and 14th streets
East Village: Fun queer fine-dining destination HAGS is closing on Sunday, October 18. But never fear: Co-owners chef Telly Justice and sommelier Camille Lindsley are in the middle of relocating their queer restaurant to Noho next year. 163 First Avenue near East 10th Street
Greenpoint: Both neighborhood locations of Yemeni cafe chain Mokafé have closed, per Greenpointers. 1059 Manhattan Avenue, near Eagle Street; 799 Manhattan Avenue, near Calyer Street
Upper West Side: Longtime neighborhood sports bar Jake’s Dilemma is closing on Sunday, October 18, after operating for over 30 years. The owners, who say they lost the lease, are keeping their next-door sibling bar, the Gin Mill, open. 430 Amsterdam Avenue, at West 81st Street
West Village: Wine bar Justine’s on Hudson is closing on Saturday, October 17. Restaurateur Justine Rosenthal, who is the daughter of notable wine importer Neal Rosenthal, opened her namesake spot in 2023. The Instagram announcement teases that they’re opening something new at the address. 518 Hudson Street, near East 10th Street

Multiple locations: Chip City, the fast-growing cookie conglomerate that got its start in Astoria, Queens, in 2017, seized operations at all of its remaining 22 stores on Thursday, October 1. Originally known as Chip NYC, the cookie chain embarked on an East Coast expansion spree in recent years around New York City, New Jersey, Boston, and D.C., with help from a $10 million investment from Shake Shack founder Danny Meyer in 2022. The menu showcased core cookies chock full of chocolate or peanut butter, but Chip City was perhaps best known for its wacky weekly flavor drops that once drew long lines in Manhattan. At its peak, Chip City ballooned to 45 stores in 2024. “Consumers are spending less and their preferences are evolving and that has negatively impacted our sales,” per an internal statement from CEO Nicolas Baizan obtained by NRN. The total shutdown comes days after the chain’s co-founder and former CEO Peter Phillips sued the company over an alleged unpaid salary dispute and other financial claims, notes NRN.

Garden City: Oprah-backed health food chain True Food Kitchen closed its sole New York location on Sunday, October 4, after the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The Long Island location inside Roosevelt Field shopping center was one of 12 True Food Kitchens that all suddenly closed from coast to coast. The Phoenix-born chain known for its seasonal American plates, salads, and freshly squeezed juices served in leafy dining rooms has 34 restaurants left in 14 states. 630 Old Country Road Space 1040B, Garden City, Long Island
Hudson: Tropical comfort foods restaurant Lil’ Deb’s Oasis, the color-soaked Upstate NY favorite amongst the LGBTQ community for the past 10 years, closes on Monday, October 12. 747 Columbia Street, Hudson, New York
Multiple locations: Java giant Starbucks recently announced a restructuring plan to close 250 underperforming stores in North America, and eight of those are reportedly scattered across Manhattan.

East Village: Potenza Centrale closed this week after a nearly three-year run, owner Luigi Iasilli tells EV Grieve. Named for the Southern Italian town where he’s from, the pint-sized restaurant specialized in Roman-style square slices made with a long-fermented dough, focaccia, and mozzarella. Its late-2023 arrival marked a neighborhood comeback for him after his Max restaurant closed a decade prior. He didn’t specify a cause for his latest shuttering. 38 Avenue B, at East Third Street

Bed-Stuy: Dear Friend Books & Bar, Brooklyn’s community spot for comedy, cinema, and coffee, closed at the end of September. 343A Tompkins Avenue, at Monroe Street
East Village:Hekate Cafe & Elixir Lounge, billed as Manhattan’s “first sober bar” that leaned into sorcery and tarot card reading by candlelight, officially closed in late September when its lease was up after a four-year run. Hekate, which doubled as a coffee shop, specialized in nonalcoholic beer, wine, and cocktails. “We aren’t making enough money,” owner Abby Ehmann told EV Grieve back in May. A rise in competition in the low-ABV space also didn’t help. “The independent room proved the market and could not pay rent on it,” writes food culture siteNew York Eats Here. 167 Avenue B between East 10th and 11th streets
Gramercy Park: Neighborhood sports bar Triona’s served its last beer in its original location on Monday, September 28, a date timed to coincide with Monday Night Football when the Chicago Bears happened to beat the Philly Eagles. However, the bar makes a comeback tonight, Friday, October 2, reopening next door at 190 Third Avenue as the newly named Triona’s Vintage Sporting Club.
Prospect Heights: Wayward Fare, Brooklyn’s wood-fired Mediterranean destination for breads, meze, pastas, and lamb dumplings, closes on Friday, October 2. Its chef-owner Akhtar Nawab, who runs other restaurants in NY as well as Philly, says he’s working on “something new” for the space, however. Stay tuned. 554 Vanderbilt Avenue, at Dean Street
South Slope: Chicken Feastin, the grilled poultry pad also known for its ribs, burgers, and Greek gyros, closed after a five-year run. The space is perhaps cursed, notes Here’s Park Slope, pointing out its former life as Tommy’s Cheesesteaks & Pizza and calling its most recent chicken menu “legitimately good.” Chicken Feastin maintains another Brooklyn location on Gates Avenue. 450 Fifth Avenue, at Ninth Street
Upper East Side: Killers Kiss, a short-lived dive bar with punk rock shows and cheap beer (somewhat an anomaly for the neighborhood), announced its closure this week after less than a year in business. The bar was named for the 1950s film by Stanley Kubrick — the director the owners are very much into. 1415 Second Avenue, at East 74th Street
