Portland had a banner summer for food, with a packed line-up of openings from food cart pods and wine bars to cafes, burger joints, and bistros. The Rose City also saw some painful closures, as restaurants and diners alike continue to grapple with rising
food costs and a shaky economy, but the swell of new spots kept spirits up. Out of all the recent debuts, a handful have bubbled to the top of the food scene conversation as the top spots to try out at the moment.
This Heatmap, which is updated every two months, is a running list of excitement-worthy Portland restaurants that have opened in the last six months or so. As restaurants “age out” of the Heatmap, they may appear on other maps or even the Eater 38. But we’re confident that new ones will rise up to take their place.
New to the map in September: The Malarkey, Marée, and Sazanami.
