Let’s face it: New Yorkers don’t often eat in Little Italy, a honky-tonk stretch of Mulberry Street north of Canal dotted with Italian restaurants and thronging with tourists. But they just might decide to wander that way starting Thursday, September
17, which kicks off the 100th annual Feast of San Gennaro , running through Sunday, September 27.
As the name suggests, the festival commemorates San Gennaro, the Bishop of Benevento, Italy, who was martyred in 305 A.D. by the Romans. His blood was collected and preserved in Naples, where it is said to liquify every yearon September 19, the day of the procession. Gennaro is considered the patron saint of Naples.
For this round, we’ve added a location of L’Industrie as well as longtime Italian spot, Casa D’Angelo.
