We’re still a week shy of the official start of fall, but some cooler days and cloudy skies already portend the end of summer. If the encroaching cooler months have you feeling a bit blue, there’s good news. September and October have a slew of exciting
openings — some returning favorites, others fresh faces — to look forward to, which should help take the edge off those ever-earlier sunsets. We’re talkin’ baked goods from a beloved bakery, an exciting new Andalusian eatery from one of the city’s most celebrated Spanish chefs, and the expansion of a Filipino American favorite, to name a few.
Feli
For the past decade, Urdaneta has been a staple among Portland’s Spanish restaurants, serving up bites from northern Spain’s Basque Country like pintxos and burnt cheesecake. Now, owners Javier and Jael Canteras are setting their sights south with Feli, a celebration of Andalusian fare in Slabtown. The restaurant, honoring Javier’s paternal grandmother and his family and roots in southern Spain, will serve dishes such as dry-aged mojama tuna, llauna rice, and Iberian pork, alongside a sherry-focused bar menu.

JinJu Patisserie
JinJu fans, rejoice: The James Beard Award-winning bakery, which closed its North Williams Avenue location last December, is almost back in baking action. In June, Kyurim “Q” Lee and Jin Caldwell announced on Instagram that they’d found a new location just a short distance away from the original outpost. An August 27 post further shared that JinJu is anticipating a late September or early October opening. Expect long lines as this beloved bakery reopens its doors, but as Portland already knows, the croissants, cakes, and other delights are worth the wait.

Bar Sprezzatura
Michael Mina, a multi-James Beard-winning chef with a restaurant portfolio spanning the globe from Dubai to Las Vegas, is expanding his empire into Portland for the first time. The Heathman Hotel in downtown Portland will serve as the new home for an outpost of Mina’s Bar Sprezzatura, which also has a San Francisco location. Justin Ramirez (whose local resume includes stints at Arden and Coquine) is on board as executive chef, bringing with him background experience working at Mina’s namesake restaurant in San Francisco. The Italian-inspired spot will carry over some dishes from the SF location, like handmade pastas and Venetian bar snacks, while also incorporating more Pacific Northwest ingredients and influences. For the “bar” part of Bar Sprezzatura, expect Negronis, martinis, spritzes, and wines from the West Coast and Italy.

Pamana
Portland is still reeling from the loss of Expatriate, which shuttered abruptly in February, but the space has an exciting new tenant on the way: a second location for Filipino American restaurant Pamana. After closing beloved food cart Baon Kainan last summer, Geri and Ethan Leung opened Pamana as a long-term residency at the Hoxton Hotel in early September 2025, starting with brunch before adding a dinner service. Roughly a month shy of the residency’s one-year anniversary, the pair announced the opening of a second location on Instagram. According toBridgetown Bites, the Concordia neighborhood location will focus on dinner to start, dreaming up a fresh menu while transplanting some staples like lumpia and sisig. The Leungs also plan on leaning more into the wine world at this location. Brunch will carry on at the Hoxton for now.

Bossa
There’s a new cafe-and-bar hybrid on the horizon: Bossa, bringing tastes of Brazil, from coffee to caipirinhas, to Northwest Portland. According to Bridgetown Bites, by day, it’ll be a cafe slinging Brazilian coffee made with the brand’s own specialty roasts alongside classic dishes like tapioca crepes and pão de queijo. Come afternoon and evening, it’ll transform into a bar where diners can try other Brazilian staples like caipirinha cocktails and easy-eating bar food. In a nod to Brazil’s nightlife scene, after-dark hours will also sometimes come with DJ sets. Emanuelle and Tilion Lieberman are the driving force behind Bossa, using their combined backgrounds in social media, filmmaking, and photography to produce some slick content to build hype. Pop-ups over the past few months with the likes of Sunblossom Farm have helped Bossa get on Portland’s radar ahead of the projected October debut.

Angelina’s
Sesame Collective, the restaurant group behind a number of popular spots, including Dolly Olive and Shalom Y’all, has a new addition in the works. Named after Sesame Collective co-owner Laura Amans’ paternal grandmother, Angelina’s bills itself as an upscale neighborhood bar and grill serving, according to the teaser website, seasonal food ranging from house pastas to salads to polenta bread. Initially slated for a summer launch, the opening has been pushed back into autumn.

Galleria & Grotto
If you’ve been curious as to what will finally fill the space of the beloved and much-missed Doug Fir Lounge on Southeast Burnside, there’s now an answer. The former music venue and bar will soon be home to Galleria & Grotto, a vintage-meets-modern dining destination for contemporary global cuisine. The two-level establishment will consist of a restaurant and bar on the first floor, slinging steaks, pastas, and seafood towers, and a bar and performance space on the lower level, following the former music venue’s model.

Sushi Fukami
Nimblefish fans now have a new place to enjoy chef Cody Auger’s incredible cuisine: Sushi Fukami. After delays to the original summer debut, the eight-seat restaurant, which occupies the former Lil’ Shalom space, will finally have its highly anticipated opening on Friday, September 18, the Oregonian reports. Even smaller than Nimblefish’s 12-seat setup, this solo venture from Auger aims to provide an even more intimate experience for guests. Reservations are now live for the $195 Edomae omakase menu (and likely to go fast), so snag spots now.
