Double Chicken Please, an acclaimed New York cocktail bar that holds a place on the World’s 50 Best Bars, heads to the West Coast this summer with a two-day pop-up at Ardor in West Hollywood. The bar will take over the menu from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday,
August 13, and Friday, August 14, to serve a menu of six special cocktails. The drinks will be available at the bar on a first-come, first-served basis, or at tables with dinner.
Double Chicken Please’s pop-up menu will include the Tomajito, a twist on a mojito, with tomato vine, tomatillo, mint, and Makrut lime leaf, alongside the Papaya Salad with tequila, fish sauce tamarind, kumquat cherry tomato, and coconut. The vesper-esque DMV blends olive, fennel, and makrut lime leaf with gin and vodka, while the Dorayaki re-interprets the Japanese confection with bourbon, amontillado sherry, red bean, corn, barley tea, and lychee. Double Chicken Please co-founder Faye Chen will be on-site at the pop-up mixing drinks. A collaborative starters menu will also be available, featuring Double Chicken Please’s hot honey.
Reservations are available via OpenTable for dinner, while the bar will be reserved for walk-ups.
Enrique Olvera comes to Palm Springs
If there was ever a good reason to decamp to Palm Springs during the hazy peak of summer, a dinner featuring chef Enrique Olvera (behind Damián, San Damián, and Ditroit in Los Angeles, among others) and two other culinary heavyweights would be it. Olvera, chef Abisai Sánchez of Manta at the Cape, a Thompson Hotel, and chef Quentin Garcia of Lola Rose Grand Mezze of the Thompson Palm Springs join forces on Saturday, August 1, to serve a 5-course tasting menu highlighting the bounty and foodways of Mexico’s sprawling Baja region and California. Thompson Palm Springs’ Desert to Desert dinner can be booked now on SevenRooms for $150 per person before taxes and gratuity.
A new menu lands at Koreatown’s Jilli
Chef Justin Min, formerly of Hanchic, has taken over the kitchen at Koreatown’s Jilli as executive chef. Min’s new menu, which he developed in collaboration with co-founder Kevin Son, goes live on Tuesday, July 28, with dishes such as fluffy milk bread, honey butter-glazed chips, a Caprese-esque tofu and tomatoes, cod en papillote on a bed of zucchini, and gim-crowned pasta. Hanchic’s bulgogi risotto also makes an appearance, now updated with sliced steak on top. And not to fear: previous Jilli favorites like Chimmelier’s fried chicken and the kimchi rigatoni will remain available to order.
Cinque Terre West flips in Venice
Cinque Terre, which moved from Pacific Palisades to Venice after the devastating Palisades Fire, has closed its Rose Avenue location in Venice, reports Pali Post. The beloved Italian restaurant from chef Gianbattista “Gianba” and Marlo Vinzoni is now open in Austin, Texas, as Cinque Terre West. The couple already have a presence in Austin with Italian bakery and cafe Ciccio Bomba that they run in partnership with comedian Tom Segura, whom they met initially at their Palisades restaurant. Popular Los Angeles Thai restaurant Sticky Rice will open in the Venice space at 523 Rose Avenue in August 2026.
