Frenchette Bakery from the high-profile restaurateurs behind Frenchette, Le Rock, and Le Veau d’Or, Lee Hanson and Riad Nasr, opens its third location today, Tuesday, July 14, at 370 Broome Street, on the corner of Mott Street, in Nolita.
Unlike Frenchette
Bakery’s first two locations — one in the former Arcade Bakery space in Tribeca (which opened in 2020) and the other in the lobby of the Whitney Museum (2023) — the new bakery is impossible to miss because of how exposed it is. “It’s our first store where you can actually see right from the street where we are,” Hanson tells Eater.
The roughly 500-square-foot shop occupies a corner storefront in the same newly renovated building as Oriana, the wood-fired restaurant from the Noortwick duo that opened earlier this month. Though the two businesses share an address, they have separate spaces with their own entrances.
The bakery is compact, with counter service, a small bench, and a standing drink rail. “We jumped at the chance to be on such a great corner,” Hanson says.
Executive pastry chef Michelle Palazzooversees Frenchette’s overall pastry program, while bread baker Johann Cottier is the head baker. Alex Smith is running the baking for Mott Street. The Nolita shop will carry its pistachio croissants ($10.50), kouign amann ($6.25), and naturally leavened loaves ($6 to $12). The new location expands its savory offerings to include sandwiches, salads, and its first-ever bacon-egg-cheese sandwich ($15). A refrigerated pastry case also allows the team to offer cream-filled desserts unavailable at the Tribeca location, including eclairs, princess cakes, and Paris-brest ($14).
Frenchette Bakery’s opening adds another notable new food destination to the Mott Street area. Along with Oriana, Piccolo Morinifrom the Marea family debuted just around the corner. Together with nearby destinations like Emilio’s Ballato, Torrisi, Cervo’s, and Rubirosa, the neighborhood has become one of downtown’s busiest places to eat.
The shop will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a focus on breakfast and lunch.
