Prolific Brooklyn restaurateur Sal Lamboglia is closing his Cantonese American restaurant with Nom Wah Tea Parlor’s Wilson Tang in Brooklyn this summer. Sal Tang’s will have its final day of service on Saturday, August 1, in Cobble Hill at 521 Hicks Street,
at Degraw Street.
“After much consideration, we have made the difficult decision to close Sal Tang’s,” the statement from the Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant reads. “While this chapter is coming to a close, the relationships and friendships formed through Sal Tang’s will endure. We remain deeply proud of the collaboration between chef Sal Lamboglia, Wilson Tang, and the entire team, and we have nothing but admiration and respect for one another.”
Lamboglia is holding onto the address, per a rep, and plans on opening something new there, but there are no further details for now.
Lamboglia currently runs Italian American restaurant Cafe Spaghetti (2022) and American restaurant Swoony’s (2023) in Carroll Gardens. He recently opened Bar Ferdinando, his revamp of the 121-year-old Ferdinando’s Focacceria, in the same neighborhood this past April.
Lamboglia tagged Tang to open Sal Tang’s in late 2024 because he wanted to get more Chinese restaurants in Cobble Hill. Dishes included barbecue pork ribs, crab Rangoon mozzarella sticks, sesame chicken cutlets with a General Tso’s sauce, and, because it was a Lamboglia project, fettuccine with a spicy pork ragu.
Along with Sal Tang’s shutter, Tang is closing his other non-Nom Wah restaurant at the same time. His Hong Kong cafe pop-up-turned-restaurant Cha Cha Tang is closing at the end of July in Greenwich Village, within Mercer Street Hospitality’s Hancock Street space.
