Chicago has done a lot for U.S. coffee culture. Not only has the city launched behemoths like Intelligentsia, but it also champions community-driven cafes such as Bueno Daysand longtime local roaster Metric Coffee — the latter of which opened a new flagship
Avondale location in 2025. Whether you’re craving a traditional drip coffee, an experimental cold brew, or a matcha to ground your morning, these shops serve expertly crafted drinks alongside pastries and doughnuts that rival some of Chicago’s best bakeries. Many also double as cozy third spaces where customers can settle in for hours.
In this 2026 update, we’ve added Bueno Days, a Little Village cafe rooted in Mexican heritage and nostalgia, and LVL UP Coffee in Bronzeville, a neighborhood-focused cafe centered on helping customers “level up” their week one espresso shot and work session at a time.
