Perhaps the most iconic luxury hotel in Los Angeles, the Beverly Hills Hotel, home of the famous pink walls, the legendary Polo Lounge, and countless celebrity stories, will open a new supper club with Mattia Agazzi, the former chef of Beverly Hills’
Gucci Osteria. The 94-seat music venue and restaurant is part of a 10-year project with interior designer Ken Fulk and music curator Alex Le Roux, infusing a ritzy new nightlife destination inside the hotel. Named the Supper Club, it joins the property’s most extensive renovation to take place since the 1940s, with plans to open before the end of the year.
Considering the dinner-and-a-show legacy in Los Angeles, it seems to make sense for the Beverly Hills Hotel to bring something like this to its storied grounds. Its owner, Dorchester, which also owns Hotel Bel-Air, has had its share of controversies, but seems determined to mark a new era that adds something substantial to the hotel’s more than 110-year history and joins a legacy of Hollywood nightlife.
The addition of a new jazz-oriented supper club hearkens back to historic Hollywood haunts like the Ambassador Hotel’s Cocoanut Grove and joins the recent wave of live music–centric hot spots opening around town, like at Beverly Hills’ Cipriani and South Los Angeles’s Somerville. Evidenced by the arrival of Hollywood’s Blue Note, live jazz has also been trending across the city, with casual and upscale venues alike catering to a new generation of passionate music fans.
Agazzi oversaw the Michelin-starred Gucci Osteria during its five-year run on the top floor of the Gucci boutique on Rodeo Drive, serving a tightly curated fine dining menu overseen by Italian chef Massimo Bottura (of Osteria Francescana in Modena, Italy). At the Supper Club, Agazzi will attempt to meld his love of jazz with improvisational food served across a semicircle of plush banquettes all facing the stage. And while jazz and instrumental music will be a foundational part of the experience, Le Roux’s varied background will bring in a wide range of genres including soul and R&B.
