San Francisco is a vast city. There are as many small climes as there are micro neighborhoods, as many bizarro landmarks as there are world famous vistas. That same thinking goes for restaurants. The Eater 38 is the ultimate guide to restaurants that
define a city’s dining scene. Take it from the Eater editors who are out at all those restaurants, bars, and cafes: These are San Francisco’s top places to eat.
In this latest refresh, write-ups include even more relevant info for diners, including a rough range of pricing for each destination. One $ is shorthand for inexpensive places where entrees are mostly under $15; $$ designates spots where entrees are mostly under $30; $$$ means entrees are mostly under $40; $$$$ indicates restaurants with pricier entrees or a tasting menu experience.
New to the map in this summer 2026 update: proper British pub Dingles Public House, Michelin-starred Filipino fine dining Restaurant Naides, and classic San Francisco restaurant Bix.
To be considered for the Eater 38, restaurants must be open for at least six months. For the most exciting new restaurants in town, check out the heatmap.
