ST. JOHNS — Good news, fish and chips fanatics: There’s a successor to the popular and much-missed Arlo’s Fish & Chips at the St. Johns Food & Beer Porch pod: Hey Hey Paula. After a several-year hiatus following the death of Arlo’s co-owner, Larry, Jess
and Adam of the pod’s Two of Us breakfast cart relaunched the cart on Friday, June 19. The duo shared on Instagram that they’ve got some “big shoes to fill” living up to Arlo’s legacy, nodding to the cart’s namesake — Larry’s wife and Arlo co-owner Paula Wing. Hey Hey Paula’s focus is all fish and chips, with crunchy beer-battered Pacific cod plus fixins’ like homemade tartar sauce. The truck also has a spiffy, fish-themed paint job courtesy of Paint Can Keith from PDX Paint Pals. There’s no dedicated online presence at the moment, so follow Two of Us for updates. 7316 N Lombard Street
CONCORDIA — Award-winning Vietnamese brunch spot Mémoire Cà Phê opened the doors to its new location along Northeast Alberta on Friday, June 12. The move was announced back in April via Instagram, allowing the team to expand into a bigger space. Familiar favorites like the breakfast burrito, breakfast sandwich, shrimp omelet, and đặc biệt waffle all return as well, and the sips section is just as exciting, with a selection of Vietnamese coffee drinks, matcha, and other brews. 3003 NE Alberta Street
CONCORDIA — Sure Shot’s new restaurant location is slowly started welcoming diners into its space. Local tastemaker Gary the Foodie shared news of the smash burger spot opening up for a few hours on Saturday, June 20, followed by Sure Shot announcing a burger run on Wednesday, June 24, via its Instagram stories. An official opening date has yet to be shared but if you want to catch these small opening windows, be sure to follow Sure Shot’s Instagram. 5011 NE 42nd Avenue
NORTHEAST — As Portland International Airport completes the final phase of its splashy new terminal, a handful of new bars and cafes from Portland beverage makers have been opening up in recent months. April saw the arrival of Smith Teamaker’s PDX cafe in the D/E Concourse area, where travelers can snag tea lattes, hot teas, and other libations and treats. And this past month, Freeland Spirits and Straightaway Cocktails both opened stylish bars as well. Freeland’s outpost in the D/E concourse serves up mini cocktails and tasting flights made with the distillery’s signature gins and bourbons, while Straightaway’s C/B concourse bar features full-size and flight options of its RTD cocktail line-up, plus some fun collabs with local bars like Tulip Shop and the Sports Bra. Food-wise, there are “Dapper Dogs,” aka fancy hot dogs, as well as breakfast pastries from Sebastiano’s. Only downside? All these new spots are post-security, but that gives you something to look forward to on your next trip. 7000 NE Airport Way
BOISE — Pizza pop-up Tale of Us has a new permanent home as part of the Prost! Marketplace pod (say that three times fast). Run by husband-wife team Darren Provenzano and Ny Lee, known locally for launching Fracture Brewing, Tale of Us draws inspiration from Sicilian traditions and East Coast Italian American pizza staples like the Trenton tomato pie for its slow-fermentation offerings. There are round pies and “nonna” squares, with standards like margherita and cheese, plus signatures like the Sleeper Train and Pillow Talk. 4233 N Mississippi Avenue
MILWAUKIE HEIGHTS — Medieval-themed meadery and leather goods purveyor Wyrd opened the doors to its new atmospheric tasting hall, Castle Wyrd, on Saturday, June 20. After announcing in January that it would not be renewing the lease on its Southeast Holgate location, the brewery’s Milwaukie move is a homecoming for founders Tayler Toll and Travis Sigler, as Milwaukie was Wyrd’s original home area. The new location goes all in on creating a transportative space, with a turret facade, a great hall-esque interior with long wooden tables, and festive decor evoking medieval fantasy worlds. The meadery’s honey-based mead is the move beverage-wise, with the rest of the menu still filling out as operations wind down at Holgate. 13207 SE Mcloughlin Boulevard
HILLSBORO — In-N-Out continues to inch into the Portland metro area by debuting a new Oregon location near Tanasbourne on Thursday, June 18. The opening comes just a few months after a new Vancouver outpost joined the company’s regional presence. Now, west-side Portlanders are just that much closer to double-double cheeseburgers, animal-style fries, and chocolate shakes, but east-side residents may still find it faster to pop over to the Vancouver location. Either way, hopefully (dream big!) having more options eases drive-thru lines at both spots. 2498 NE Town Center Drive, Hillsboro
