Bensonhurst: A father-son duo from Brooklyn fulfilled their dreams of opening a neighborhood pizza place to call their own in late July. Jules Pizza specializes in a long list of round or square pies, plus slices, pinwheels, calzones, Sicilian-style meatballs, heros, pastas, shrimp-centric mains, and salads, with lots of chicken Parm. There’s also a wall of cartoon-ish Jules merch, including hats, T-shirts, and sweatshirts, out of the gate — a new-restaurant thing as of late. The corner pizzeria is named for its teenage co-founder, Jules, who has a huge following on TikTok. 176 Avenue O, at West Fourth Street

Astoria: Infatuation reports that Greenwich Village restaurant Top Thai expanded into Queens with Thai Niyom, which opened on Thursday, July 23. Both offer halal Thai food dishes; Thai Niyom’s lineup includes pad kee mao, curry puffs, and khao soi chicken, as well as non-halal alcoholic drinks, for lunch and dinner. 30-78 Steinway Street, near 31st Avenue
College Point: Mexican cuisine and boba tea make quite the combo in Queens at the new Guac N’ Bubble, which debuted on Wednesday, July 29, with an event attended by NY politicians and community leaders. The fusion spot comes from first-time owner Roberto “Bobby” Perez Jr., a College Point resident since 1993. Options swing from elote corn to dulce de leche churros and horchata milk to iced strawberry matcha bubble tea with lychee. Koreatown: Rossa Cafe debuted in Midtown in mid-July with plenty of nods to its founder Nicolas Salas’s background in Mexico, where he ran pizzerias and restaurants for decades before relocating to New York. The sleek, salmon-hued space slings drinks like a tres leches latte, espresso over orange juice, and Cafe Pendejo with a chile pepper kick — a popular pick-me-up among Mexican truck drivers, notes New York Locals. A small section of bites includes churros, quesadillas, and vibrantly colored conchas that also nod to his native culture. The cafe is dog-friendly and open to remote workers, too. 47 W. 30th Street, at Sixth Avenue
Park Slope: A new modern Mexican restaurant, Apapachó, opened in Brooklyn on Sunday, August 2, boasting cocktails, tacos, and larger entrees like octopus for dinner. 191 Fifth Avenue, near Berkeley Place
Union Square: New easygoing bar Bernie and Herb’s opened on Friday, July 31. 169 Bar alum Dakota Pollock, David Goldberg, and Jose Beltre took over what was the former Coffee Shop VIP room for their bar, full of cheap drinks, beer-shot combos, hot dogs, and sandwiches. 28 E. 16th Street, between Fifth Avenue and Union Square West
Upper East Side: After debuting in New York this year with delivery-only kitchens in Midtown Westand Williamsburg, Gwyneth Paltrow’s LA-born Goop Kitchen finally unveiled its first Big Apple storefront on Tuesday, August 3. It’s the only one where customers can walk in, order, and pick up its celebrity-endorsed lineup of “clean” salads, pizzas, rotisserie chicken, and wraps. 346 E. 92nd Street, at First Avenue
West Village: Manhattan seafood staple Mary’s Fish Camp has returned to the neighborhoodat a new address on Friday, July 31. Mary Redding closed the original Mary’s location in 2024 after 20 years. Currently, it’s only serving dinner, with lunch starting on Sunday, August 9. Book reservations online. 626 Hudson Street, at Jane Street
