A front-of-the-house star behind some of New York’s most influential Korean restaurants is opening a place of her own.
On Wednesday, June 3, Ahris Kim — who, alongside chef Junghyun “JP” Park and Ellia Park, helped shape acclaimed New York City restaurants like Atomix, which was ranked No. 12 on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list in 2025; casual prix fixe Atoboy; and Rockefeller Center’s Naro — will open Somssi at 79 MacDougal Street, near Bleecker Street in Greenwich Village; reservations are now open.
This is Kim’s first restaurant under the group’s umbrella company, Na:Eun Hospitality, after years working as general manager at Atoboy and later, the director of operations across the business.
Somssi is a lighthearted neo-bistro pulling from
Korean, Asian, and European influences. Dishes include grilled ox tongue with romesco sauce ($25); the Potato Potato Potato, a triple-potato dish with smoked trout roe ($32); caraflex cabbage with crab and egg ($32); and a market-price mutton chop. Popcorn ice cream with popcorn brittle ($10) is a standout among desserts.
Daniel Gronert, who worked at both Atomix and Naro, will run the kitchen. Christian Gray and sommelier Jenny Eagleton, formerly of Oakland wine destination Daytrip, will oversee a wine and sake list focused on lesser-known producers and regions.
The dining room leans more downtown bistro than polished tasting-menu destination, with exposed brick, deep green walls, antique fixtures, and vintage pieces.
Somssi’s hours are from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, and then from 5 to 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
