It must be written somewhere on stone tablets: Everyone must pass through Penn Station at some point or another, and now there’s even more reason to do so. For the first time since 1999, the New York Knicks are in the NBA Finals, and the transit hub around Madison Square Garden is buzzing with fans who want a taste of the action (even if a five-figure ticket to the game isn’t in the cards).
Whether it’s to journey on Amtrak; commute to New Jersey or Long Island; catch an A, C, E, 1, 2, or 3 subway line; or simply to visit a relatively clean public restroom — you’ll find yourself in the multi-level, maze-like, partly subterranean, alternately fascinating and terrifying Penn Station.
And now, with the Moynihan Train Hall, carved out of the old General
Post Office along with the shiny new Penn District, there’s no shortage of places to eat and drink. In fact, such is the range of food presented at Penn Station and in the vicinity that it has grown into a food destination unto itself. Here are some great places to grab a bite.
