Every Friday, our editors compile a trusty list of recommendations to answer the most pressing of questions: “Where should I eat?“ Here are four places to check out this weekend in Los Angeles. And if you need some ideas on where to drink, here’s our list of the hottest
places to get cocktails in town.
For cold noodles on a sweltering summer day: Seogwan by Yellowcow 서관면옥 in Koreatown
Recently I’ve had an insatiable desire for naengmyeon, cold buckwheat noodles served in an icy beef broth or bibim-style with paper-thin vegetables and a slick fire engine–red coating of gochujang. So while 2026 has already been declared hot carne asada summer, and ambiently feels like hot hot dog summer and hot seafood summer, I want to put forward that it might also be hot cold noodle summer: meaning get them when you can anywhere you go that has them. The North Korean–style original here tastes deceptively simple — you may feel the need to add a lot of kombu vinegar to get a full punch from each pull — but its broth also has more depth as you get deeper into the bowl; the bibim naengmyeon, meanwhile, offers a wonderful foil to the original’s unadornedness (get both if you go with a big enough group). While I don’t eat much red meat anymore, these bowls and a side of vegetarian bibimbap kept me completely occupied at the table while my companions pored over marbled cuts of short rib and pork belly. 3460 West 8th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90005. — Nicole Fellah, Eater editorial manager
For a weekend dessert treasure trove: Artelice Patisserie
When I think of beautifully composed desserts in refrigerated cabinets, I imagine walking through expensive shops in Paris or air-conditioned mall food courts in Tokyo. The desserts are often astronomically expensive, more purposeful as gifts than personal indulgences. Artelice Patisserie stands on its own in Los Angeles as an approachable purveyor of Michelin-level desserts (there are some that get close, like Chantilly in Lomita and Sweet Wheat in Culver City). I deeply appreciate the sheer variety and that most pastries run for less than $14 (compare to the prices at Lysee in New York). I’m partial to the gluten-free tropical Exotic, filled with passionfruit, coconut, and pistachio sponge; the massive Roche, an homage to the drug store candy, has luscious chocolate surrounding hazelnut mousse. The viennoiserie is also excellent, among the better examples around town. Let’s be honest, it’s easier to get to Studio City, Burbank, and Sawtelle Japantown than jumping on a plane to Europe. 11301 West Olympic Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA, 90064. — Matthew Kang, correspondent, Eater
For a never-fail vegetarian breakfast burrito: Cofax Coffee in Fairfax or Culver City
I’ve been on a vegetable-packed breakfast burrito kick recently that has led me to Doto, Amara Kitchen, Alfalfa, and the like. My latest fixation burrito has been from Cofax Coffee: a breakfast burrito standby, maybe better known for its pastrami- or chorizo-filled version. Cofax’s classic vegetarian breakfast burrito simply but effectively infuses some life into my morning with its smoked hash of potatoes, bell peppers, and onions rolled into a soft tortilla with pico de gallo, scrambled eggs, and Jack cheese. At only $12, this burrito has become a likely candidate for my regular rotation. 440 North Fairfax Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90036. — Rebecca Roland, deputy editor, Eater Southern California/Southwest
For a scoop of ice cream in the cutest dessert shop: Mother Moo Creamery in Sierra Madre
It does not feel officially like summer to me until I’ve had a scoop of Mother Moo’s ice cream and sit on a bench in the adjacent Kersting Park as dusk envelops the tiny foothill town Sierra Madre. I love all the flavors I’ve tried at Mother Moo — including a triple milk flavor that reminds me of rich, Japanese dairy; a tangy passionfruit sorbet; and a salty chocolate flavor that tastes rich without being too sweet. My personal favorite, however, remains the organic strawberry; the brightness of ripe strawberries permeates throughout the ice cream and tastes like summer. Pair a scoop with Mother Moo’s freshly made waffle cones or a slice of pie from the glass dessert case. I also love examining all the fun candies stocked (I’ll usually take home a pack of sour Swedish candies). 17 Kersting Court, Sierra Madre, CA 91024. — Kat Thompson, audience editor, Eater Southern California/Southwest
