El Ruso, a former street cart–turned–truck known for its flour tortilla–wrapped tacos and burritos, will open its first permanent restaurant in Studio City in the former Roadside Taco. L.A. Taco first reported the opening, which owner Walter Soto tells
Eater has been a dream for more than a decade.
El Ruso Taquería opens at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, with a menu of tacos and burritos served with Sonoran flour tortillas made by Julia Silva, along with margaritas, beer, and horchata. Proteins span asada, chile Colorado, al pastor, rib-eye, shrimp, and more. For now, the El Ruso truck will pause operations as Soto focuses on the taquería. Soto tells Eater that the opening is a “new opportunity to be able to give [guests] pure quality.”
Tijuana-born Soto initially opened El Ruso as a trailer in Boyle Heights in 2016 before expanding into a fully fledged truck that often parked in Silver Lake. In the years since opening, El Ruso has received wide recognition for its cooking, and especially its handmade tortillas, with a glowing 2020 review from Bill Addisonin the Los Angeles Times and a feature on Netflix’s Taco Chronicles.
The Cinerama Dome lives again
Multiple publications report that Sony will revive Hollywood’s iconic Cinerama Dome, with a reopening targeted for 2028. Sony, which also owns Alamo Drafthouse, will turn the adjoining theatre into a 14-screen Alamo Drafthouse.
A new dinner menu at Mírate
Chef Alan Sanz has reworked the dinner menu at Los Feliz’s Mírate, drawing on Mexico City and the Yucatán Peninsula for inspiration. On the new menu, find dishes including enmoladas de pato with duck carnitas and blackberry mole, kanpachi crudo, and pan de pulque with caramelized onion-miso butter.
Ice goes luxury
