SOMA — Bar Malone’s is a new bar from industry vets Gabriel Freiberg and Eric Passetti,
set in the former District San Francisco space on Townsend. Tablehopper has the details, and they share that the opening drinks menu was done by Harlan Records operating partner Will Herrera; chef Bryan Baker of the Tradesman and Alfred’s Steakhouse created some bites for the bar; and restaurateur Anna Weinberg took the lead on design. And if you’re wondering about the name of the bar, it comes from actor Ted Danson’s character, Sam Malone, from the popular series Cheers. 216 Townsend Street, San Francisco
OAKLAND — There/There is now open in the former Friends and Family space in Oakland, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. New owner Alli Li was a former server at Friends and Family who later became the chef before eventually leaving in 2023, but now they’re leading the new bar and continuing it as a queer gathering space. There are new menus in place, and Li’s lowered the prices of drinks and dishes, which start at $12 and $4, respectively. 468 25th Street, Oakland
